The library was established in an attempt to preserve the knowledge of Humanity with a focus on the medical knowledge that is needed to find a cure and re-establish the medical field.
This is a three story building. Most of the space is used for the book shelves, but there is also space for people to sit and study those books.
There are always Scribes present in the library. There job is to ensure that the books are well cared for. Part of this is to monitor the manner in which they are being handled and used by those visiting the library. This means that they are often walking about and observing those who are using the books.
Every book that has been found has been copied at least once and is kept in the library for viewing. Those books that are frequently used are copied more often to make them more available for study. Books that are rarely requested are often kept in storage rather then in the general library, but the Scribes are available to access this books.
The Fall Books are considered priceless treasures. They are restored as best as possible and then hanled only once to be copied. After that, they are stored in a manner to best keep them. They are not displayed for viewing or handled as these activities are considered too risky. They are only taken out if the copy of the book has been stolen or dmaged beyond the Scribes' abillities to make another copy from.
A medical office building was converted to be the library with shelves being built into every space possible. Later the adjacent buildings were added as places that the library could use to copy books and to restore the books that are brought to them.
The New Medical Library is not a tourist location per se. But it is a place that people from other camps do come to visit in order to purchase records from the library. Nothing is ever put on the loan and no one but the Scribes are ever allowed to handle the original Fallen Books. However, the copied books are available for review within the library. If someone is interested in taking acopy with them, they can commission a Scribe to copy the book for them to purchase. Books are never loaned given that travel between the camps is so uncommon. Those who live at
Camp Hope can just come into the library every day and read from the copies so there is no reason for them to borrow the books. Occassionally, even those within the camp will also commission a book to be copied for their convience of use. This is usually done by a doctor that is looking to have a book more readily available for research or medical reference. But even for those who live within
Camp Hope, books are considered too precious to risk lending.
I enjoyed reading your article. The maps are a nice touch.
Thank you so much for visiting!
