Feryll's Claim

With a soft thunk, Wudao drove his spade into the sandy loam. He let go for a moment and glanced around. Nobody was in sight; the dunes of the Claim's beach went on for miles down the shore. Only a pair of seagulls were there to watch him, slowly circling overhead. He cast a clump aside and drove the spade in again.   A hard crunch. Paydirt. The mercenary dug in with vigor until the object of interest was unearthed. A small wooden chest, clasped shut but unlocked. Wudao pulled it out of the loam and sat heavily.   "About damn time I found this thing." He was talking to himself again. Maybe it was a good idea to do these jobs with a partner just for company. The mercenary pulled his dagger out and pried the chest open.   "No. Ugh. Un-be-lievable!" The chest was full of tattered paper, and had clearly been waterlogged at some point; the paper was nothing but smears and mold. No chance he'd get payment for this. Wudao kicked the chest away and threw his spade as far as he could.   "This place sucks!"

Geography

Feryll's Claim is a section of shoreline on the northwest shore of Saibh, a gently convex beach filled with sandy dunes and scrub, stretching for miles inland. What makes the Claim notable is its susceptibility to massive waves that occur from nowhere; a few towns have been built in the Claim and have been destroyed virtually overnight by massive waves that appear randomly and destroy all in their path. Academy researchers do not believe the waves are linked to storms; although storms cause localized flooding, the waves recorded in history simply appear at a towering height, crash miles deep into the inland, then recede at once, leaving nothing but destroyed structures and resculpted sand.   Due to this threat, the Claim has been left well and alone, and is a corner of Western Saibh that is completely wild and undeveloped in comparison to the built out farms and roads that neighbor it.

Fauna & Flora

The salted soil means most of the plants that grow here are the hardy weeds that compose beachside scrubland and no more. Notably, the Claim is home to several colonies of seals, who beach themselves in order to mate. Said colonies were at one point hunted until a local lord banned the beach hunt; killing the youngest seals repeatedly had threatened to collapse the sealing industry entirely.

Natural Resources

Although there are few natural resources on the beach, treasure hunters visit occasionally to look for anything that might have washed in from the last wave strike.
