Hub: Ancestries and Heritages

An Ancestry is a character's heritage, it's culture, and more all rolled into one. Almost all Humanoid and Humanoid adjacent creatures, including the player characters, have an ancestry. For this page, this relies on what is choosable for players.   When you select an Ancestry, you gain everything under the Ancestry Statistics section.

Base Stats

  • Age. A creature's age. Mostly for flavor and the rare ability that affects it.
  • Size. A creature's base size. Most creatures are Medium or Small, unless stated otherwise.
  • Associated Traits. The Traits a creature has, for classification and lore purposes.
  • Traditional A.Boost Spread. For players, this represents the way other games handle Attribute Boosts given by an Ancestry, or how an Ancestry placed those in older games. While not a thing in CHASE, it works as a guideline for those who want to follow more traditional paths..
  • Language. A creature's base languages, gained from their culture and how they interact with the world. More Languages can be learned via having a high Charisma, or learning them via an Activity.
  • Speed(s). A creature's base movement types, typically between 20 ft and 30 ft for players.
  • Special Senses. Senses outside of normal vision, such as Low-Light Vision.
  • HP (+HP Per level). The amount of health a player starts with at character level 1, plus the amount of health they gain per level.

Ancestry Talents

These minifeats, or Talents, are available to certain Ancestries who qualify. Most are swappable, but many are not, often being a unique boost in power for the specific Ancestry. All Ancestries start with 3, with one being an Origin Talent only they can get, one being a Talent that is swappable but only that Ancestry can have, and the last being a Talent that is available to multiple Ancestries (even if they don't start with that one).   Via Character Progression, a player can get more Ancestry Talents by leveling up, getting them at every even level (2, 4, 6, etc). The full list of Talents an Ancestry can obtain will be under the Variant Ancestry Talents section on each page.

Heritages

A heritage is like a sub-Ancestry, a variant codifier that further highlights the creature's lived experiences and special talents. All Ancestries have their own heritages, and all have access to certain Versatile Heritages that allow players to customize their characters further. Some heritages, both Versatile and normal, alter or add traits to the base Ancestry, giving them access to different Talents.   Versatile Heritages will be listed here, whereas specific heritages will be listed on each Ancestry's page.
