Chitina
Chitina is the capital city of Sladovia. The city is known for its specialized purpose to forge all the metals flowing through the country. Each building within the city works towards the goal of the forging and refining of metals. The city was founded in 455 making it the oldest city in the world. It has survived so long because of how difficult it was to reach until modern times. The city itself is carved into a mountain, with all structures existing within the mountain. Chitina was not the origional capitol of Sladovia, only becoming that way when forces captured the dwarvern city in 1157.
Demographics
The population of the city is made up entirely of humans, halflings, and dwarfs. Each member of a household earns the same amount of money each day they work. This causes larger families to become wealthier technically. The most wealth is held by the cities baron, who controls the income of the citizens.
Government
The city is run by a baron that was appointed by the councilors of Sladovia. The baron has full control over the laws and taxation of the city. Some laws include a population limit, the earnings per person, and how jobs are to be assigned.
Defences
Chitina is one of the hardest cities to reach. The slopes of the mountains are too steep for rail systems and airships cannot make the altitude necessary to reach it. The only option is to use the aging gondolas or the winding trails up to the city. Once inside the city, many guard posts exist to stop an invading force, with some being suspended from the ceilings or walls. A network of contingency pipes exist that allow the government to use the molten metal in the city to burn the invading forces and destroy all equipment. Sate of the art cannons are nested in the exterior of the mountainside, which can hit a target just a few miles from FIC territory.
Industry & Trade
With the city acting as a massive forge the largest exports are that of refined metals, which are distributed to all the cities in the country based on their needs. Chitina produces no food on its own, instead relying on its neighbors to supply it with enough food to keep its citizens fed. Goods are transported via the gondola system as it is the most efficient way to move large amounts of goods.
Infrastructure
The structures in the city are carved into the stone of the mountain. Ores are moved by lifts to the blast furnaces in the center of the city. From there the molten metals are sent to be refined in their respective districts. Iron heads to the Gray district, gold to the yellow, silver to the white, copper to the brown and adamantite to the black. Scraps from these districts are sent to the minting plant below the capitol building to be made into coins for the country. The introduction of electricity revolutionized how the city runs. Large winding staircases were hollowed out to make room for elevators, work centers are filled with electric light, and an trolley system transports citizens across the city. Sewage is sent down the sides of the mountain range using a intricate system of pipes.
Assets
The city holds more raw metal than any other city in the world. the city keeps equipment to refine the metals and maintain equipment as well as food to feed the population for months if war ever breaks out and internal defense systems.
Guilds and Factions
Each district has a Representative that works with the Baron to keep piece between the government and the people. Representatives work to get more pay for workers, restrain taxation, and allow for paid sick days on a person by person basis.
History
Chitina was founded by dwarfs in 455, who originally built the city as a forge, to perfect their adadmantite refinement. Eventually permanent hovels were carved out for the smiths to live in. Over time the population grew, and trading for food in exchange for refined metals became commonplace. In 857 Sladovian forces had infiltrated the city and used their superior numbers to convince the leader to surrender. The city surrendered after five months, as the Sladovian army could not find a way to penetrate the cities defenses. Admiring the fortitude of the location and its people, the Sladovian government offered a truce if the city joined their country. The people of Chitina accepted and the city became the capitol of Sladovia less than a year later. Around 1020 AF the adamantite mines had run dry causing the small city to start refining different materials to stay alive, this was accieved by the allure of master smiths refining other materials. After it was discovered that Ohes contained a massive amount of adamantite ore, the country attempted to colonize immediately. It didnt take long for those colonies to fail, as a result a deal with Domhain's Reach was struck. If Domhain's Reach supplied Sladovia with Adamantite ore in return, Sladovia would supply the Domhain's Reach with tools and weapons made of the metal. This secured Chitinas future as the capital of Sladovia and the lives of its people.
Tourism
Tourism is limited within the city, with most outsiders being merchants or wanderers. The parts of the city travelers have access to is limited to the most outer parts of the city to keep them from seeing the inner workings of the forge itself. A market set up for city wide trade is near the front gates and is the most likely spot for travelers to gather.
Architecture
The city is carved completely into the interior of the mountain. The head of the government and their family live in a mansion carved out of the peak. The main part of the city exists in a carved out cavern in below. Residential structures often have a function for the forging process, such as supporting the cavern or acting as part of the lift system. At the center of the city exists the blast furnace, the same blast furnace built by the original settlers centuries before, modernized of course. Older parts of the city are decorated with traditional Dwarven stonework while newer sections look more plain and practical.
Geography
The area around Chitina is mountainous making flat land being a rare commodity. The tops of the mountains are often snow capped and runoff creates rivers at their bases.
Natural Resources
Water is collected from runoffs of the melting snow caps, metals are mined in the mines through out the mountains.
