Sladovia

Sladovia the oldest country, founded in 1035, was the first bonding between humans, dwarfs, and halfings. The fact that they were so tolerant of racial differences made them a target to their other southern counterparts. Sladovia was able to prevail due to the combined effort of the three races and now controls more land than any other political power. Their racial tolerance only goes as far as "the superior three races", deeming races created from the meltdown of Sunów as inferior.

Structure

Sladovia is ultimately in the control of The Council of Three who create and finalize any and all national laws. Each city has one Baron that must abide by any rule or law The Council of Three passes, provide protection for their city, and create and enforce regional laws. The Council of Three is made up of one Human, Halfling, and Dwarf. Each member is required to have been a Baron at some point and the terms are life long. Barons are hand picked by the council, usually for grooming to one day become a council member.

Culture

The people of Sladovia are a hearty people. The country has been battered in war so frequently that new attacks on cities come as no surprise. Life carries on for them through the conflict. A desire to catch up technologically to their southern neighbor drives the population to carry on and to grow stronger.

Public Agenda

The current agenda of the Sladovian government is to keep their lands free of any race spawned by the meltdown of Sunów. They attempt to accomplish this by limiting international travel and travel to the international railway system. Any attempt to cross the border any where else, by climbing, or using an airship, will result in the use of hostile force.

History

Formed after a conflict between Humans and Dwarfs in the Age of Fog, Sladovia is the oldest existing country in the world. Throughout the ages, Sladovia attempted to expand its borders to gather as large of a work force as possible. When the Sladovian force reached the first Halfling settlement, the Halflings wanted equal representation in the eyes of the government. To appease that, the current governmental style was established. Three counselors, coming from each of the races, would rule over the land. The mountains in western Sladovia contained a rare mineral known as adamantite. This ore, when properly processed, is stronger and more flexible than any other metal on the planet. Unfortunatly, it wasn't long until the mines ran dry and adamintite became a extremely sought after resource. When Ohes was discovered to have a plentiful supply of raw adamantite, many expeditions were sent to colonize the continent. None of the colonists were successful. Fortunately, a fledgling colony, Domahin's Reach was having luck with staying more than a month (longer thanmost settlements came close to), with some assistance from the Sladovian military, Domhain's Reach was fortified. To repay the favor a trade deal was struck. Sladovia would get as much adamantite ore as it desired if weapons tools and manpower were given to help protect Domahains' Reach. As Sladovia continued to expand, a few city states in the southeastern area of Ekix felt threatened. The city states formed The Federation of Independent Cities, and promptly went to war with Sladovia. Conflicts between Sladovia and the FIC would continue as long as each exists.

Demography and Population

Sladovian citizens consist only of Humans, Dwarfs, and Halflings. Dwarfs tend to remain in northern regions, acting as the majority in the mining workforce. The Halflings typically reside in the southern regions farming the little fertile land that exists in Sladovia.

Territories

The most improtant locations include Chitina, Drangholt, Kivertrov, Mahisy, Nahal. Each have been occupied by Sladovia for at least 70 years, but all have been conquered through military force. Smaller settlements tended to surrender to the overwhelming force.

Military

The Sladovian military is divided into two sections. The Grand Army acts as the primary force when defending from or attacking enemies. The Grand Navy controls the nations war ships and war balloons, the sky and sea are at their mercy.

Technological Level

Sladovians are known for their smiting and building. Smiths are able to work with adamantite better than any other country, and control the market for adamantite so that no one is able to catch up. The best firearms and swords are said to come from Sladovia, and they fetch a exuberant price outside its home country. The airships manufactured in Sladovia are the most advanced in the world. Early styles of auto pilot systems, and advanced navigation systems have been designed and implemented into their frames. These wonder are not contained in the type that is traded outside the country. The field that Sladovians are lacking is in arcane studies. The country is extremely behind on magical studies, seemingly because it wants to be. The current leaders are afraid of what magic is capable of and keeps knowledge of arcane arts from those who are less educated. Those who are aware of its existence tend not to pursue research due to the many laws that restrict what can be done.

Foreign Relations

Sladovia has a unstable relationship with the FIC. The only trade between the two nations occurs via the international railways system. Sladovia is approximately 20-30 years behind the FIC technologically and desperately wants to catch up. Seeing an opening, the FIC attempts to liberate any border settlement that it can get its hands on. This caused Sladovia to make cities more centralized, built them larger and with massive fortifications. To do so, a major trade agreement with Domhains' Reach was struck. Domhains' Reach would supply adamatine ore, and Sladovia provides master crafted weapons and armors.

Agriculture & Industry

Sladovia is fed in its entirety by Drangholt, Nahal, and their villages. The farmers typically grow hearty root vegetables, like potatoes and beets, and leafy vegetables like cabbage, spinach, and Brussels sprouts. These crops are used  to sustain the metal refining in Chitina, ship building in Mahisy, and Airship building in Nahal, weapon and armor smiting in Kivertrov, and tool manufacturing in Drangholt.

Trade & Transport

Trade with foreign nations is only conduced in Domhains' Reach. The goods are usually shipped via cargo ship, but priority orders will be flown in via airship. Goods will sometimes be exchanged between neutral parties at Station City, but the goods received are usually for someone who holds political office, like councilor, barron, or lord.

Education

Most of the population is educated to about an eight grade level, and is then expected to join the workforce. Those who continue their educaion afterwords have the chance of being cosidered for a lord or barron role in their city. Federal law regards those who became more educated as higher as those who did not. This causes many to attempt further education, but many do not make it due to strict labor laws forcing certain hours a week depending on ones career field.

Infrastructure

Each city has fortified walls to deter the FIC from invading one of its key cities. Connecting cities is a national railway system that all links together at the nations capitol, Chitina. Smaller towns have a small rail system that takes them to their assigned city. Nahal and Mahisy contain ports of entry for any ship willing to dock. Every city but Chitina has a landing zone for airships.
