Personal history

Ermentrude "Trudy" Crisparkle grew up in the village of Scrapwell. A friend of Saint Maggie, the saint of Clockworks, she learned to harness both her mechanical skills and her growing arcane power at the saint's side. She watched the destruction of her friend at the hands of The Wizard-King Faizal's construct minion. After that, she went to the local tavern, The Squeaky Gear, to drown her sorrows before leaving the village for good, where she met a strange guitar playing man, who told her that some believed when a construct died, they weren't really dead, but their soul went back to the first construct, and then they were reborn in the next constructs that were built. He bought them all several rounds, seeing the sadness of the situation, and everyone drank and was merry again, telling stories of Maggie, and wondering where she might be reborn next. The next day Trudey woke up with all her things, but no hangover, in the midst of a giant battle. Planar beings she did not recognize fought all about her, including one that was several hundred feet tall, that did battle with a giant wizard in red known as Saint Kristoff. She and a few others (she learned later they were: The warrior Guilliman, the mystic Christie Fastbender, the alchemist Hans Muhlfeld, and the bard Caen Borland). The group did battle with an Aboleth, and very nearly defeated it, but perished.   She woke up the next day with the rest of the group, and found this Saint Kristoff, who told them all that what they saw was the future, and it was up to them to stop it. Trudy was unconvinced, and when Kristoff asked her to open her bag, she did so to find a tiny mechnical spider, made up of spare parts, crawled out and fled quickly in the direction of "The Spire", a great underground dungeon that Kristoff said they must get to the bottom of to prevent the destruction of their world. Kristoff advised Trudy, in a whisper so that no one else could hear, that the spider was the last remnants of the spirit of Saint Maggie, and that Maggie was heading into the Spire. Armed with this knowledge, she reluctantly agreed to go with the rest of the group.   In her time adventuring with the group, her powers developed further, but one of her most important contributions was the conversion of "Clanky", an automaton in control of the local goblins with a special connection to the spire. During their battle with the goblins, Trudy convinced the automaton to switch sides, and once the fighting ended, she repaired him. As they adventured further down the spire and in the surrounding area, she helped to improve and upgrade him, as well as teach him how to repair himself and other such creatures better. The pair made a formidable team, her magic and skills and cleverness combined with his powerful martial strength and ability.   Their greatest challenge came when they ran across the strange being known as "Mariner 12", a giant metal box with great magical powers that was worshipped by a tribe of troglodytes. After much fighting with the troglodytes, the being opened up, wanting to find a peaceful solution, and agreed to send the troglydtes away in exchange for Trudy building him a body of his own design. Trudy agreed, and she, with Clanky's assistance, built this body for the box, who then began to occupy it, and left the spire. The next time the group came to that level, the box was gone as well.   The last night Trudy spent with her adventuring group was a tough one. Against her protests, they elected to make camp in the room formerly occupied by "Mariner 12", despite the last time they slept in the spire, getting attacked by undead. This time was no different, and the reanimated spirit of Caen once again came to attack them. They were able to drive away the spirit, and elected to leave the spire and make camp somewhere else. Before dawn, Saint Kristoff appeared again, and told Trudy she had done what was needed in restoring Mariner 12, and that it was time for her to go home. He also advised that Saint Maggie would still be going home, and that she should do all she can to help her and get the village ready for her return. Such a prospect delighted Trudy, but she did not want to leave her friend Clanky behind. Kristoff explained that this was not an issue, and with a wave of his hand, he freed Clanky from his bounds to the Spire. Elated, Clanky was excited to be going away with his friend, and Kristoff created a portal, sending them both to Scrapwell.
