Campaign 4, Session 1

Five strangers are shown the end of the world, and then given the task to stop it.

Five strangers woke up in the cold dirt, ocean waves crashing on the rocks, the sounds of battle around them. Frost on the ground, they rose, not recognizing each other. In the distance, an incredibly large man in red and white robes (Saint Kristoff), wielding a sword and staff, did battle with a giant aberration monster that was somehow bigger. There were no time for introductions as the five of them were set upon by a flying tentacled fish creature (an aboleth). A young man began to sing, another began to issue commands, they readied to fight, except the gnome, who readied to flee. It's began to attack them all with it's tentacles, it's mucus getting on to two of them, forcing them to begin to gasp for air, their lungs replaced with gills. The singing stopped. The gnome grabbed the fifth person, another tiny female, and headed up the stairs away from the battle. A great battle ensued, bombs were thrown, swords driven into fishy flesh, but the creature's magical spells proved to be the groups undoing. A spell of control on the littlest group mate forced her to incapacite the commander with a colorful spray. Later, the littlest female attacked the gnome, and eventually killed the bard as he lay bleeding out. The gnome fought back, resisting the others spells, but too eventually fell and was killed by the little female. The commander was tossed into the ocean to drown at the bottom of the bay. The bomb chucking alchemist, though he did his best, could not defeat the creature, even after it was weakened by the bard's blade and the gnome's fire magic.   The souls of the creatures seemed to depart their bodies, but rather than travel on to the next world, or fade away, they simply remained there, watching as the man in red fell to one knee, and issued a great proclamation, wishing that they had had more time.   The 8th of Oldautumn in 1291 AYD (8.12.1291)   The five dead folks woke up on a forest road, completely healthy, but with no idea where they were. The gnome attacked the other female, striking her directly in the head with her weapon. There was fighting and bickering about what had happened, who they all were, where they were, many questions that needed to be answered. The group noticed that snow had suddenly formed on the ground around them, and was falling from the sky, and a booming voice that matched the one of the man in red told them to seek the spire and to save the world. When this didn't stop the bickering, the man in red appeared physically, though normal sized.   He introduced himself as Saint Kristoff, though no one recognized who that was except the gnome, and that what they had seen really did happen, but they had traveled back in time. When the bard, a man known as Caen, tried to question this, he explained that it was very difficult to understand, he wasn't going to be bringing someone named "Lorcesis" down to explain it, and that they needed to trust him. He told them all that they must seek out the spire near here, and that by getting to the bottom (something that no one had done before) and stopping the threat there, that that future would not come to pass. Though this seemed enough to convince most of them, the gnome remained unconvinced, and made unflattering comments about Saint Kristoff's weight and bossiness, comparing him to "The Wizard-Kings". Kristoff rebuked this statement, stating that if maybe she didn't live so close to them, he'd have come to visit her village before. He then asked her to open her bag, and a tiny mechanical spider crawled out, heading in the direction of the spider. He whispered something to the gnome, and her attitude changed completely, and he disappeared. The gnome now seemed to know they had to go on the quest, though she did not go into why.   The group introduced themselves to each other:

  • Christie Fastbender: Swears she didn't mean to kill all those people.
  • Hans Muhlfeld: An alchemist from the island nation of Almas
  • Guilliman: A military commander from Nujanat in the Kingdom of Dhalmass
  • Caen Borland: An adventuring bard from the city of Dragonspire in the Kingdom of Harnell.
  • Ermentrude "Trudy" Crisparkle: Throws fire, likes mechanical stuff, hits people with piston-fired weaponry.
