Campaign 4, Session 13

The group descends to deal with the troglodytes again.

After healing and resting, the group headed back down, this time planning to take to the rooms one at a time and make the troglodytes come to them. Coming to the first room, the leader from before saw Jimmy, and cast a spell on him, forcing him to stab Hans, and Hans nearly died. The leader ran off, and the group was able to dispatch the two guards, who seemed to be more powerful troglodytes then before. From the halls beyond, they heard rhythmic chanting from the room that held the "Godbox". The group tried to sneak around, finding a feeding room with a pink slush pool and babies feeding, Trudy ended up taking two of the babies for hostages and future negotiation, which caused Christie to go off exploring on her own, disgusted with the idea. Hans and Guilliman decided to open one of the doors, chuck a bomb in, and then close the door, which did injure several trogs, who were all praying to the Godbox. Eventually, this dissolved into a shouting match after Han's second bomb killed one of the leaders, about "Who was the real monsters here" and other such things, and the Godbox finally spoke, taking Christie inside via a magical portal to negotiate a truce. The Godbox explained that he wanted to get out of the spire, and that he required smarter companions for his plans to get free, and that he wanted to be free before "The ones who came before the Gods" come to destroy the planet. He summoned in Trudy at this point, and gave her instructions on how to create an iron clockwork body for him to occupy, in exchange he and the Trogs would leave. The Godbox said that his name was "Mariner 12" and that he came from a place far away, that he had forgotten his creators but knew his mission was to protect sentient life and gather information about the universe, and that he had crash landed here many years ago and was unable to escape. Trudy was able to build for him the body over a day and he then occupied it as well, sending the trogs away to a nice swamp somewhere. With no more need for the metal, he gave them all the items he had taken over the years.
