best hunter in the village [session 9]

by Adria

(prompt: what is your proudest moment)

pride is one of those things that everyone has, like buttholes, but not everyone brags about. back home it was common for the alphas or pack leaders to quickly turn pride into a boasting opportunity to proclaim how much better a leaser or mate they would be. knot measuring contests to inflate their own egos.

as such, i try to not talk about things i'm proud of because i would hate to think i'm remotely similar to those knotheads in any way.

but a little bit of humble bragging on occasion is good for the soul ;)

when i was young, it was not intended (by the elders or hunting organizers) for me to join the hunting parties. that was just to be for vaylan, even though it's a natural wolf instinct. so instead of being a "good little omega" and doing as they said, i snuck off and joined the hunting parties when vaylan would go. when i was found, they said i could stay but i had to stay back and out of danger. i agreed purely to stay, knowing i could handle myself.

while on the hunt, i caught a glimpse of our target- a giant elk i believe, but no one else saw it so they didn't believe me. so i followed what i saw without the others. and i was right, it was our target. with careful tracking, well timed attacks, and a little luck, i took down the elk on my own without injury.

and the looks on their faces when they found me. absolutely worth the lecture i got after about listening to your elders, etc etc. (not from my parents, they all praised me. mamma actually made sure to snag me a bit of antler as a souvenir.) after that, i was allowed to hunt with them but on a probationary basis. i wish i could say they trusted and listened to me after this, but it wasn't so fast.

to date it's one of the things i'm proudest of; the others are uh, not fit for polite conversation. i like to hope that i'm helping to change the elders minds about excluding omegas from tasks, but those old crotchety alphas are probably to set in their ways by this point. the most i can do is prove them wrong.
