The Seawolf Family

The Seawolf family is a noble family of median importance in The Brilliant Empire. The current head of the family is Lord Calder Seawolf, and his heir is his oldest son Lord Roarke Seawolf.

Current Family

The current head of the Seawolf family is Lord Calder Seawolf, married to his third wife, Thana. Calder has six children who are considered Lords and Ladies in the Seawolf house: Lord Roarke (with his first wife Cainys Shieldhart), Lord Luthien (with his lover Fhaora Darkwood), Lord Keenan and Lady Daire (with his second wife Darhana Arroway), and Lady Sorcha and Lord Tierney (with his third wife, Thana Swiftwind.

Line of Succession

While the Empire does not dictate a requirement for male-preference primogeniture, it has always been the custom of the Seawolf family. Daughters do not inherit unless there is no other option, and then only after an advantegeous marriage. For the current family, the line of succession goes as follows: Roarke, Keenan, Tierney, Daire, and Sorcha. Luthien is not in the succession, as he is not a legitimate son, born out of wedlock.

Assets

The Seawolf family enjoys the favor of the Empire as well as a thriving business. They run a large fleet of ships and specialize in trading, though the family has produced more than a few Navy officers as well.

Structure

The Seawolf family is ruled by the current Lord Seawolf. There has never been a matriarch, Lady Seawolf, at the top of the family; power has always passed from fathers to sons, and there has yet to be a widow without a son ready to take his father's place.

Culture

Some of the Seawolf culture and traditions are heavily influenced by the sailors and ships they so closely align with; traditions and customs inherited from before the Empire was an Empire. They have been able to retain these because until recently, Seawolf was a very minor noble holding and thus vastl ignored by the rest of nobility. Lord Calder (and his father before him) are determined to change that.

Public Agenda

To the outside, the family appears to be loyalists and serving the Emphir faithfully. Internally, this is true of Calder and those of his generation - but Roarke has questions.

Agriculture & Industry

The Seawolf family has almost zero interest or holdings in agriculture, with the exception of a few vassal farmes and lesser nobles with farming land around their family stronghold of Wolfhold.

Trade & Transport

The family has a virtual stranglehold on the shipping and and ship industry, an influence over the Empire fleets and business that is secondary only to the one that Free Territory of Galanthis has over captains and ship-mages. In this, the Seawolf family has recently skyrocketed from a minor noble family to one of favor and importance.

The Strength of the One is in the Many

The Uncertain Future

With the Empire rumored to have almost perfected flying ships, the rise of the Seawolf family teeters on a knife's edge. Current patriarch Lord Calder chooses to ignore it, while his heir Lord Roarke works behind the scenes to see if he can make the best of an uncertain future for his family.
