Daire Seawolf
Daire was only 2 years old when her mother Lady Darhana Arroway and her parents' mistress Lady Fhaora Darkwood died tragically. She was raised by her older step-brother Roarke Seawolf from that point onward; her father Lord Calder Seawolf having basically abdicated responsibility for his younger children and not particularly interested in daughters anyway.
When she is about six her father remarried to a wife not much older than Roarke, Lady Thana Swiftwind. While her three older brothers have more a sisterly relationship with Thana, Daire was young enough that she forms a more mother-daughter attachment to her young stepmother. Despite Thana's best efforts, Daire is a wild child, very tomboyish, with an interest in Captaincy.
