Parthil

Summary

Parthil is an Elf and Gnome-ruled Kingdom in Laivra. It is the largest and most powerful land in Vrashyn due to its bountiful natural resources and advanced technology. While not as socially restrained as its neighbor Cirithas, Parthil clamps down on political dissent particularly harshly, especially when it comes to rebels from Old Riochtan and other holdings in the northern plains region of their empire. The Parthilians are known lovers of arcane study, hosting the premier university in Vrashyn. Its capitol of Maelenor is made entirely of living trees and is the largest and most populous city in the world.

Geography

Because it is the largest land in Vrashyn, Parthil's geography varies significantly. The northern half is dominated by open fields and farms spread along the Zhaera and Edrain Rivers. Humans predominate in this region and live alongside High Elves and Gnomes. In the south, Parthil is bounded by the Evruxe Mountains and the Satyr kingdom of Tanalki. Between these regions is the Parthilian Forest, a temperate rainforest known for its diverse and populous wild animals.

Society

Parthil's dominant culture is that of the Ailië, or Lakemen in common, an ethnic group of Forest Gnomes and Wood Elves from the region that includes the cities of Cheineas and Qinthalas, as well as Lake Pahtanén. Their culture and political influence spread over s a result, Parthili society is divided between north and south. In the north, Humans and Halflings are the majority, with High Elves forming a small feudal elite. These communities are divided by wealth more than race, and multi-racial villages are the norm in the north as well. The same is not true in the south, where insular communities of Elves, Gnomes, and their Half-Elf offspring keep all "rurals" at arms-length.

Politics

Parthil is currently ruled by Emperor Vrarun, a man of both Elf and Gnome ancestry from Southern Parthil. His grandfather gained control of Parthil in an uprising motivated by the current emperor's poor handling of the Human kingdoms to the north. Vrarun has continued the expansionist policies of his grandfather, notably by conquering Old Riochtan early into his rule. The Humans in the north have never fully accepted Parthili rule, and Old Riochtan is rocked by revolts every decade or so.

Economy

Northern Parthil is a Feudal society based around agriculture. It is the breadbasket of Laivra and uses its vast surplus to trade with its neighbors. This trade mostly happens over land and is facilitated by various merchant's guilds, including the Messenger's Guild. While there are northern ports like Qilora, these mostly serve as stopping points for ships travelling to and from the Dwarvish Communes. Southern Parthil produces less in raw materials than the north, though the forest produces some of the best timber and pelts in Vrashyn. The forest cities typically have consumer economies that export art and magic items.

Religion

Parthil has no official religion. Many among the Ailië elite associate god worship with Human and Halfling peasants. They instead revere powerful Fey, typically making pilgrimages to the Feywild by journeying through Tanalki or by teleportation. Out in the countryside, the Inland Gods are honored by most. In Northeastern Parthil, the Church of Corellon is somewhat prevalent, especially in communities of ethnically Cirithasi High Elves.

Military

Along the border with the Hobgoblin Clans, Parthil maintains a specialized defense force to repel the frequent raids of the horse-riding Hobgoblins. Otherwise, Parthil does not use a standing army and instead relies primarily on conscription for its defense. Young Ailië Elves are expected to train in weapons from a young age, with young girls focusing on the bow and young boys focusing on melee weapons. These Elves serve as the military leaders while ruling-class Gnomes are more likely to be casters or perform logistical roles. Second-class people from the northern plains region, even Elves and Gnomes, are prevented from rising to command roles.
