Valenheim

Valenheim has three types of weather; cold and wet, cold and snowing or just really fuckin' cold.

Geography

Valenheim is situated in a snowy valley flanked by a nigh-impenetrable mountain range that almost completely encircles it. The mountains around this great city form an almost complete circle. The relatively small gap in the south of the mountain range creates a natural choke-point allowing for it to be the single most secure and defensible city on it's continent. This small gap however, is where the settlers of Valenheim would choose to build a gargantuan wall spanning the distance of the gap in the mountain range - This huge wall would later come to be known as Mestrvirki.

Outside Mestrvirki and amongst the smaller walls, while nowhere near as inhospitable as the mountain ring, the hills to the south of the city are steep and rolling. These grand hills eventually give way to tundral prairies and scattered trees fed by Issvatn - A large river flowing from a sizeable lake in the north of the valley, out to sea.
Issvatn, in being so close to the craggy mountains, alternates between savage, frothing rapids and long, gently flowing routes. These routes would come to be used for transporting people and cargo alike up and down the river's banks, from Hofn Brattrstein in Valenheim to Hofn Heillfranvagr in Vagrvik. Additionally, Valenheim has a secondary port for the nobility and wealthy influencers of the city - Hofn Fagrvatn which also has access to the Issvatn river.
Above the winding waters of Issvatn, broad bridges of sturdy stone have been scattered along its banks alowing safe passage for merchants, travelers and carriages over the river, whilst still allowing for vertically short row boats to pass underneath.   Along the river's edges on both sides and nestled throughout the spattering of conifferous trees, farmers keep their flocks of sheeps, goats and thick-furred cows in wide-open fields. Only being divided by the twisting roads and pathways cutting through the landscape.

Defences

Valenheim is fortunate enough to have several layers of defensive structures around it's perimeter. The most notable of which - Mestrvirki, is a giant wall that stretches roughly 35km from one side of the mountain range to the other and embeds itself deep into the rocky faces of the mountains at either end.   There are several smaller walls to the south of Mestrvirki that act as watch points and small fortresses. All of the defensive walls are built from dense blackened stone and are thickest at their base. The walls are not straight or simply curved as many of the surrounding nations have built their castles and forts... no, instead, the walls of Valenheim are more akin to that of a King's crown. The walls are shaped such as though they are almost pyramidical and are lined with triangular bastions in an outwards-facing, uniform manner.   The overall aesthetic of Valenheim's fortifications are brutalistic, sharp and sturdy. Most of it's construction owed to an almost obsessive exactness and overengineering.

Food

Sustenance is provided to the people of Valenheim through it's multitude of livestock farms, fishing access and multitude of rye and barley fields.
Thanks to the high-number of livestock farms, dairy products are widely available and enjoyed by almost every citizen frequently.   Most meals in Valenheim and the rest of the Okse Dominion consist of fish or other seafood that is high in protein along with a side of bread or oats and a variety of cheeses. Several kinds of berries are often also included as sweet snacks or to acompany red meats and cheese dishes. All served with mead, milk or water to drink.

Sanitation

The structures behind Mestrvirki are fortunate enough to have a very simple sewage system that is fed by the freshwater lake to the north of Valenheim via the Issvatn river.   Outside of the main wall - Mestrvirki, farmers run trenches along the edges of their lands to help run-off water and waste flow into the river away from crops and livestock. On top of this, the common folk unable to live within the wall use a variety of methods including outhouses and pots that are then emptied into cesspits. These cesspits are then either emptied and utilized as fertilizer or the pit is covered up and a new pit is excavated.

People

The people of Valenheim have grown quite accutsomed to the almost constant subzero temperatures and as such are often found wearing thick fur cloaks and sheep or goat wool accessories to stave off the cold. Due to the harsh enviroments, physical jobs and high protein diet, a typical Oksmun [TBC]
