T'Ched (Ched)

T'Ched is a Human and Droven polity in the southern hemisphere of Vildrel. The nation-state is stigmatized as aggressive and savage, having no geopolitical allies aside from the Giants of Edruva. The truth is more complex, as T'Ched is also an epicenter of the arts and scientific learning, though it does have a strong and feared military.

People and Culture

The people of T'Ched have formed a regional identity based on a shared ideology rather than a shared ethnic identity. Though its holdings are diverse, the many people of T'Ched are brought together through their many shared enemies.

Ideology/Religion

Their denomination of Eclectic Materialism is "humanist" (though sapiest may be a more apt term, given their high population of non-human people). They highly value science and the scientific method, and T'Ched's many universities are leaders in mathematics.

Ethnicities

T'Ched is a melting pot of multiple human ethnicities and tribes that formed in issolation from one another following the Ages of Form due to the mountainous geography of the southern continent.

Mynuk

(Main Article Mynuk)
(pronounced Mee-Noock)
The Mynuk are the most widely disseminated people throughout T'Ched. They consist of humans, droven, and giants who developed in the fertile river valley west of the and settled in what is now Scheera Pel. The gutteral Mynuk language is found throughout T'Ched and is used in most of its naming conventions.   The Mynuk value modesty and humility. It is traditional for them to wrap themselves in cloth that covers or obscures their face, even in military service.

Zeeci

The Zeeci primarily reside in Narr, but their territory has been split by the border line Estaria established in the Gnashi desert. As such, many Zeeci live in T'Ched as well, primarily in the west.

Government and Politics

The head of state for T'Ched is a hereditary leader called a "highmarch." Although T'Ched is extremely diverse in its ethnic groups and species distribution, it has a more centralized government than Narr with a greater control over its provinces. Most population centers recognize, at least begrudgingly, the highmarch's rule.   Their military is called the Bui-Vak and is controlled directly by the Highmark.

Geography

T'Ched is located south from Estaria, across The Green Sea. It borders Keth to the west, Edruva to the south, and Narr to the east. It also shares a south-eastern border to The Forgelands, but that border is naturally closed off with sheer cliff-faces, making Dredges less of a problem unless they first travel through Narr.

Major settlements

Scheera Pel

The "city of cliffs" is the closest thing T'Ched has to a capital. It is the current home of their Highmarch, and thus the seat of its government. Scheera has a population of 2.5 million built on cliffy terrain with rich mineral resources. (Not to be confused with the ancient empire Sura Pel)

Etymology

The name T'Ched comes from the ancient Mynuk word for stone with the prefix "T'" being a shortening of Telvak, meaning people. Estarian colonists began referring to the region as Telvak Ched ("People of Stone") in the late 18th century, which was later shortened to T'Ched when the polity was established in the early nineteenth century.

History

T'Ched is one of the most recently established polities in Vildrel, but its people and their history extends far beyond that.

Early Tribal Era

After the great calamity that began the Age of Work, the land that is now T'Ched was sparsely populated. Volcanic activity from the Forgelands caused the southern continent to have an intense, sweltering temperature unsuitable for human migration and the mountains of the Scheera range created a natural wall that deterred exploration. Worst of all, Bloschwol, the sheer cliff-face separating T'Ched from the forgelands did not yet exist, allowing Dredges to freely wonder across the Gnashi Desert into T'Ched.   Still, humans existed in this land even during these trying times. Remnant societies from the Age of Form lived in small, nomadic communities around the Scheera range. Many of these societies eventually settled into the ethnic communities that make up T'Ched today, including the mighty Mynuk who built the city of Scheera Pel from 881 to 993 SE. Scheera Pel was originally a religious, migratory location for the Mynuk until the Great Shift created a land barrier that protected the surrounding agricultural land from dredges, allowing Scheera Pel to be permanently settled in the late twelfth century.

Ousting of the Zeeci

In the mid fourteenth century, the Mynuk expanded their territory to include historical migratory locations along the Scheera Range. The city of Chagnu Pel was built in and around Zeeci territory in the southern Scheera mountain range.
