Sura Pel

Sura Pel is a fallen empire of humans and giants that used to occupy territory in what is now western Estaria, western Prekha, southwest Landren, northern Sadrove and northern Keth. The far-reaching empire thrived and expanded from 1371 to 1728 SE, when it was systematically conquered by an alliance of nations lead by King Eiknir the Great of Estaria.   All of the territory that was once held by Sura Pel is now divided amongst those surviving empires. Sura Pel is all but forgotten, save for its role in the Estarian national myth as a great evil that was conquered by their greatest king, never to be seen again.

Culture and People

The people of Sura Pel formed a unified identity through conquest of neighboring tribes. Their identity first formed when giants fleeing from the Lowland Collar escaped west and encountered human tribes living in the ruins of Malnok Pel. The giants and humans formed an alliance for food, territory, and strength, calling themselves Sura Pel, meaning "City of the Sun".   The name was a statement of intention. From their inception, the goal of Sura Pel's leadership was to conquer until there was nothing left beneath the sun.

History

Overview

The city of the Sun enjoyed an era of prosperity and expansion from its inception in 1371 until the early half of the sixteenth century when a combination of factors, mainly the Red Death and the fact that their territory ran up against the empires of Estaria and Prekha, caused their expansion to cease. They maintained some tenuous trade relations with their new, powerful neighbors, but this inevidably broke into hostilities as the Sura Pel military apparatus demanded expanded territory and resources to maintain itself.

Mid-15th through 16th Centuries

The latter 15th and 16th century was a time of relative peace for Sura Pel. As part of the The Mynuk Golden Age, Sura Pel's cities had an explosion in population and quality of living that was abruptly ended by the Red Death, which took a particularly harsh toll on Sura Pel's crowded capital.

17th Century

During the War of the Gates from 1599 to 1709, Sura Pel warlords struck western territories held by the Estarian Regency, which could do little to respond to the warring bands. This changed after Estaria was re-unified under King Eiknir the Great.
