Primeval Drift

The Primeval Drift was an event that occurred during the first decade of Uthilithian existence where the continents underwent rapid fragmentation and moved to major ley intersections across the world. Due to the Thirty-Year Blur, the only records of this period stem from the notebooks of Astrid Ermendrud, the founder of Tempora.

Summary

For the first three decades of Uthilith's existence, the only recorded history stems from the written stories of two individuals - Astrid Ermendrud and Timothy Brenatto. This is due to the Thirty-Year Blur, a period of time where the mortals created by the Creator's cognition hadn't "quite gotten their minds right" (which would be alleviated sometime in that third decade by the birth of Uvta, goddess of knowledge). Thus, all record of this occurrence stems from The Notebooks of Astrid Ermendrud.   The Primeval Drift was a seismic event mentioned throughout Astrid's "middle period" - from approximately CY 9 through CY 30. In her journal, she states that she first felt tremors in the earth in Lone Moon of CY 9 while at her modern-day Necludan cottage. Multiple rifts in the earth - including what would later be identified as the Tri-Continental Divide (a point of fracture between Tempora, Thur Nirkhum, and Chaelwyth) were then formed as the landmasses began to separate from one another. Astrid noted that her grandfather - the Creator - had told her stories of the original "continental drift" and how it took multiple millennia; this sudden shift was far more rapid.   None of the original three were privy to the separation of other continents from Tempora, as they wouldn't fully realize the scope of the supercontinent until all five major continents had stabilized, anchored to major Ley intersections around the world. Some of these central locations include Misty Run, the Tree of Life, the Floating Isles of Fhirdiad, Yaldabaoth sen Sehaska, Fenrir, and Schönberg. Notably, Thur Nirkhum did not "drift" at all - the Schneespitze Tundra and Coronet Highlands were already anchored to a ley intersection in thanks to the stabilizing magic radiating from the Portal of Creation.   Astrid followed a trail left by Avandra to the center of the continent amidst the Danrose Plains, where a sunflower field grew. It was there that she decided to build the foundation to the Palace of Twilight, a structure infused with pre-Calamity magic that allowed the continent of Tempora to more quickly anchor to its intersection in the northwest corner of the world. However, this rapid movement caused significant fragments of the continent to separate - the Plyrior River separates the majority of Hebra from the rest of Misty Run and the Isle of Eldin broke off from the Faron coast near what would one day become Zonaius.
Other (assumed) points of separation are as follows:   The Coronet Highlands, Calibran Mountains, and Brimstone Mountains were originally a part of a continuous mountain range - however, Iacchus Argentum moved dramatically south during the final years of the Drift. All three were once the site of active volcanoes, though both the Highlands and the Calibran Mountains have been extinct since their final eruptions in the early second century. The Brimstone Mountains are merely dormant, and area druids continue to keep an eye on seismic activity.   The Forgotten Continent's continental shelf seems to have rotated completely during this period, as researchers assume that its southern border met the southern border of Ikana.   The Isle of the Archfey broke off from the area between the Sanscomb Forest and the Iacchan Peninsula (where Valenacht and House Moor are located), floating on Ley current to the center of the Argent Gulf.   Agate Cay was once a part of continental Chaelwyth, which was separated towards the end of the Drift.
