Saberfang

Warlord Saberfang (a.k.a. Father of Dragons, The first Shifter)

Known as the first shifter, Saberfang arrived on Undinia with Wrailin, Veil, and Jam-Jam and is credited with teaching shifters how to commune with spirits.

Description

A large muscular shifter, Saberfang holds many feline traits such as a large shaggy mane, cat-like eyes, furred paws for feet, and a tail. His most distinctive feature however was two sharp fangs. When he 'shifted' his fangs grew into long knife-like fangs, and he also gained whiskers with small claws poking out of his gloves.   Saberfang often wore a mix of cloth-covered plates, leather, and furs, with a fur cloak. His Moon Saber hung from his side with a large kite shield often on his back under the cloak. He mostly wore white, blues, and other pale colors, with Brown leather and white fur. The clothing and armor were functional above all else, resulting in the lord of all shifters not really looking the part. In fact, if it wasn't the fact he stood a full half a foot over the other shifters he'd blend in as just another member of the Tribe.   His Trophy necklace was a double loop with a large collection of a variety of teeth from raptors, snakes, big cats, aboleth, wolves, and a large crocodile. In the center however sat three teeth separated by beads, these were the sacred kills, A demon tiger, and two dragon teeth.

History

While little is known about Saberfang before he came to Undinia, it is known that he encountered Reagil Sepa's egg, hatching it and raising the dragon, as well as killed a Rakshasha and a adult dragon.

Void Magic

Saberfang arrived with the others through Tralden's portal. The fight that almost instantly broke out led to Saberfang fighting a retreat and freeing the slaves. Once outside Saberfang led the group to a defensible position, helping Wralin and Veil set up a small fort before Reagil Sepa came and picked Saberfang up taking him north.

Birth of the Shifters

Once in the north Saberfang seemed to disappear for a decade as revolts started springing up around the world. When he returned, a spectral tiger seemed to follow him, moving through the northern camps he taught elders how to commune with spirits. Teaching the way of his people, many of the Northmen started taking on animalistic traits.   The first the Phervian, and the world at large, knew of this transformation was when in 12 Rebel when a few hundred shifters charged an Phervian column in north Rivell. The next few years were spent growing the shifter tribe and breaking the Phervian presence in the north, freeing The Shifter wastes, Frostmourn, and the Dread Forest. With Free kingdoms situated around the world a brief time of peace allowed the shifters to establish a tribal system. Realizing the strain on the land, Saberfang split the tribes into five groups, settling them throughout the shifter wastes. Saberfang himself lead the tribe of the crystal coast. It was through this campaign that Saberfang meet both two of his loves and his wife.

Peace

Though he specifically ruled the shifters of the coast, all five tribes respected and followed his decisions. Helping the Shifters learn about their new state of being, many traditional practices were said to develop from his advice. When violence increased among the tribes from the young adults, he sent his clan's away, demanding they only return when they prove themselves. Within three years all from the first group had bowed before Saberfang with prizes for what they had killed.   Saberfang also leads the family dynamic by example, embodying the phrase 'marriage is your duty to people, love is for the battlefield.' he married one of his chiefs and raised the child she had with her second in command, as was his duty. His loves however were his two blood brothers. When a Rivellian mocked him for this, Saberfang laughed informing the honor-bound Rivellian he lacked the honor and dedication to duty to understand the Shifter way, then beat him in a duel to prove a point.   Throughout the four decades of peace, Saberfang turned the scattered tribes of the north into a single people. Gave them ways to calm the violent natures of young adults, prevent incest, and created the family model.

Warlord of the Shifters

In the mid 60's Rebel, the Phervian launched an attack on the coast of the shifter wastes. Saberfang was out hunting at the time with a small group of confidants, having to fend off the attack till the rest of the tribe arrived. During the battle, Saberfang Killed an Phervian dragon on his own before the Gnoll cavalry arrived.   In response, Saberfang gathered an army and marched south. In a vicious campaign that showed the world the power of the shifters, he pushed the Phervian back to Zigarith before sacking it with the Paladin army. It was during this campaign that he formed a blood bond with his third love.   After the sack of the city, Saberfang started moving his army home, hearing that the Phervians had been shattered beyond repair. On his way back he heard of an Orcish attack on the refugees. Realizing the dishonor the Orcs were bringing to their new 'divine' empire, he rushed the fastest elements of his army back south to help protect the Phervians. In the most brutal battle of the revolts, the Shifters gave an Phervian victory.   Saberfang demanded peace talks to end the conflicts once and for all, stating 'no honor can come from continued fighting.' The recent battle between Lyzzaru and Zumontiarth made this fact all the clearer. Saberfang called the Conclave of Peace and Liberty, though at the time it was called the peace conference. Ending the rebellions and allowing the Phervians to settle in the Gem Sea.

final Decade

For the last decade and a half, Saberfang focused on the next generation, helping his 'son' Reagil Sepa set up a magic school and reinforce the bonds between the forming tribes. Teaching duty to nature, family, and self to the next generation.   Now over a hundred, Saberfang had to deal with an invasion of spiders. Summoning a small army from both his own and the forest tribe that was under attack he charged the spiders, pushing them back to the dread forest. In the final battle, Saberfang was struck down, leading the charge against impossible odds.

Legarcy

In the aftermath of the battle, his personal guard, as well as countless devoted carried his corpse west, to The Dread tiger's home. His wife and lover's separating the massive tribe he grew into four, the Grim Tribe, Goregrinder tribe, Luna Tribe, and Crystalline Tribe. Of these only the Crystalline tribe continued to claim decent from Saberfang, having been founded by his children.   Many tribes split in the preceding years, creating the subcultures of shifters that exist in the Fey age. Many of the core traditions, including the call of the wild and gathering of tribes herald back to Saberfang. The Moon Saber holds special significance to any accepted by it, as Saberfang's true heir.   Many tribes still commemorate Saberfang's death as the last time the tribes were truly united before the fey age. Changing in 122 Fey when a Shifter horde clashed with the undead in the Borderlands, screaming a warcry in honor of Saberfang.
