Zigarith (Zi-ga-rift)

The ancient capital of the Phervian Empire, Zigarith is now a haunted ruin that can't even be classed as a shadow of its former glory.

History

Pre history

The city was built where the Phervian first came through to Undinia. It started as no more than a small town built around the central elder mind Ziggurat. The early settlement was attacked by Essyrri and a draconic army trying to force back the Phervian 'incursion'. After winning through an Elderbrain dragon infecting Esstrri, Zigarith became a central hub for the whole expedition. Growing as the Phervian empire grew over the next few thousand years, it was a thriving metropolis by the time of the Rebel Age.

Slave revolts

As word of slave revolts spread throughout the empire, more and more of the Phervian military left the city to secure its borders, this continued to the point in 3 Rebel that more Gith lived in the city than Phervian. Seeing their chance, the Gith rose up in revolt and fled the city. In the chaos, several fires started destroying vast sections of the city and hundreds of Phervian died, including the corrupt dragon slave, who was crushed under a collapsing ziggurat.
The city became just a seat of power, with only a few officials residing within for the next few decades. As more and more territory was lost, however, survivors started to refill the city until it was an overcrowded metropolis again by the early 60's REbel. In 73 Rebel the city was sacked again by the joint army of Shifters and the Paladin of Akoom. This left the city utterly destroyed with the exception of a raised road from the central ziggurat out west.

Aftermath

Though the city was left abandoned after this, several criminal organizations have tried to set up within the city. These however don't last long and certainly don't survive a change in regional control. The city would be 'sacked' several more times, despite nothing to loot and increasingly less to destroy each time. Phervian did start reappearing in the area in the early Fey, with The White City sacking Zigarith just over three and half hundred years after condemning others for the same.

State of the Ruins

By 122 fey all that remained scattered stone walls around a ruined and falling apart ziggurat, leaving around halfway up the ziggurat's west wall, a raised road that leads west, though this road has started to collapse.
