Paladins of Akoom

The warriors dedicated to Akoom, God of War, the Paladins were the backbone of the blessed plains military throughout history. Loyal to the prophet, these holy warriors serve Akoom in all things.

History of dutys

Founded by Jam-Jam as the slave revolts raged across the blessed plains, he took his strongest Orc warriors and blessed them with Akoom's power. This practice continued with orcish heroes from battles being conducted into their ranks. As the battles came to an end and things turned more to statecraft these same paladins were put into positions of advisors and enforcers for the prophet.   Under the empire of Akoom, the role of the paladins changed again to that of generals of armies, governors of provinces and territory, and the voices of the prophet. They occupied every position of power in the empire.   After the fall of the empire and the majority of the paladins killed in battle, the remainder took up three roles. The first was their oldest duty, as advisors to the prophet. The second was as protectors of the holy city of Akoomtet, while the third was as peacekeepers and agents to the prophet throughout the blessed plains.   By the Fey age, the paladins had once again become respected warriors with a wandering presence outside the Blessed planes. Though still carrying little influence outside the planes, they had lost the fear created by the Demon Prophet.

Selecton and training

At first, only those of Orc lineage were allowed to train as paladins, and even then only those who had proven themselves on the field of battle. These warriors were then trained in the divine and how to channel their devotion and conviction into magic. After the slave revolts and the casting out of the Phervian, the requirement of experience was dropped and youths of nobility were educated in the ways of war, statecraft, and religious devotion in specialized schools. The requirement for paladins of Akoom to be of Orc descent was changed to noble decent under Prophetess Burzob, though this would lead to its undoing.

Ranks

  • Student - The starting point of all paladins, these have no rank and are students at one of the schools dedicated to Akoom. Initiate - Upper-class men, are the heads of the student bodies and hold authority over their selected group.
  • Squire - Once graduated these are taken on by existing paladins, serving and learning from them.
  • Errant - The lowest rank of the paladin, these have no power or authority, they are normally under the command of a higher rank, and are not allowed squires.
  • Justiciar - The bulk of paladins reach this rank, are allowed squires, and are normally honored with military commands, acting as squad leaders and operation leads. A slightly higher rank is Commander who was given charge of smaller military groups during the Crusades.
  • Fylkir - The second highest rank of the paladins, these served as the will of Akoom. Acting as regional leaders, advisors, and generals. There are only as many Fylkirs as needed and a position has to open for a Justicar to advance.
