Moon Saber

The Sword of Heroes, the Moon Saber is said to be the most picky of all the Elvan Moonblades. A symbol of Hope, light, and justice, the wielder of Moon Saber is revered as a paragon of good. The blade itself is connected to The Dread tiger.

Description

The Moon Saber is a long thin hand and a half sword. Made of the same silvery steel as other Moonblades with the crossguard made in the style of a crescent moon. Soft white leather is wrapped around the handle ending in a wolf's head pommel. Several small strange elvish runes decorate the top of the blade, one rune for each of the users, currently eight.

History

For the majority of its history on Undinia at Seap Acadamey on a plinth within Raelgil Sepa's horde. This history will mention the two time periods it doesn't reside there. It should be noted that the theft of the sword has been attempted multiple times, with the culprits either being killed by Raelgil or dying mysteriously next to the sword plinth.

Origin and Saberfang

While it isn't clear where Moon Saber was made, or even its true name, not even Saberfang could say, having found the sword in his home plane. What is known for definite is that the blade arrived with Saberfang when the Void tear was opened at the start of the Era of Ages.   Saberfang used the blade as a rallying cry for those suffering in the North, always having it on hand, many of his victories were connected to the Dread Tiger. The change came during the Battle of Drake's Way . Throughout the remaining period, it was considered the symbol of kingship among the shifters.   Upon Saberfang's death, the blade was taken by Raelgil Sepa in order to keep it safe. though this caused an outrage, and the shattering of the tribe, many claimed later it was the right choice, seeing as many claimed to be the successor tribe of Saberfang, only the crystalline tribe claiming so after the second century Rebel.

The young wolf Cometh

During the dragon queen Essyrri's conquest in the late Chroma age, a young wolf shifter from The Frozen Forest picked up the blade and was finally able to draw it. The sword became a rallying cry for shifters, once again uniting as a single tribe to push back the mad queen, even sparking a revolt among disillusioned Draconians. After the Essyrri was stopped, the young wolf marched his army back to Sepa Acadamy and leaving them outside, he climbed up to Raelgil's horde, the events that followed are full of myth and contradictory information, creating the spirit of the sword myths.

Moonblade

After Saberfang's death, several smiths that specialize in Moonblades came to confirm the rumors of the blades' nature. After several days, and with one losing their life, the smiths agreed that, though an extremely picky one, Moon Saber was a Moonblade. They also mentioned that the blade itself had six wielders before Saberfang. Through a conversation with the blade's spirit, they were able to attain its personality.

Symbol of a true hero

The Moon Saber is the pickiest of all the known Moonblades, only accepting those true of heart, honorable, just, and courageous. This has meant that the twice the Moon Saber has been wielded has immediately been identified as a truly good person, making the blade a symbol of heroes to the Shifter tribes, and giving its wielder the ability to unite all the shifter clans.   This has led to an interesting situation where any Shifter can ask for a trial by the sword from a chief trying to unite the clans in order to prove his worthiness. This has happened five times, with two stepping down immediately, two going for the challenge and being rejected, and the latest call, on Rhohr Gorgrinder, flat-out refused.

Special significance

While the Moon Saber is important to all shifters several tribes and groups hold it in especially high regard.
  • The crystalline tribe, who claim descent from Saberfang's tribe, see the sword as their birthright with members trying to draw it every few decades, most are turned away from Raelgil Sepa.
  • The Goregrinder tribe holds a special resentment for the blade, as their might makes right philosophy is wholeheartedly rejected by the blade.
  • The Forest tribes, who have strong ties to not only the Dread Tiger but also Luna see the Moon Saber as sacred and heavily oppose its use claiming the sword will present itself if needed. They also have the most spirit of the sword myths of any group.
  • The Grim Tribe is similar to the Forest Tribes but believes it shouldn't be wielded till Saberfang is reborn claims it.

The Moon Saber seems to be an 'Excalibur' amongst the shifter tribes of this world. I wonder who will be the next 'true' hero to wield this sacred blade? :)
