Orange Phoenixes

The Orange Phoenixes are one of the ten squads of the Dwarven Army, known for being the only one to focus solely on Magic study, both combative and everyday uses.

Military Power

The Orange Phoenixes are the most powerful squad of the army, though their exact strength is unknown due to their members often hiding in their headquarters, buried in study and training. They have immense magic talent, which dwarfs that of all other Dwarven squads combined, as Dwarven culture puts much more emphasis on physical prowess than on magical, making the Orange Phoenixes a less prestigious squad for being focused on the less honorable, more Elven/Draconian kind of combat.

Command

The Orange Phoenixes have the strongest General, as is often the case. Orange Phoenix Generals almost always study at both Ironforge University, the prestigious Dwarven university, but also at the Magic College. A very well known Draconian institution, the Magic College is often scoffed at by most Dwarves. Yet it cannot be said that Orange Phoenix Generals show what a four year education there can do, as they are always immensely powerful.
Their current General is Melthrum, a student in the Class of 500 who was known to be part of the Mage Trio alongside famous Draconian Fepar Tilrak, leader of the Army of the Revolution and former most wanted man in the world, and Salasar Feaphed, the 64th Grand Wizard of the Draconians. Melthrum is often called the least impressive of the trio, yet his impact on Dwarven society is not to be underestimated, as he has proven to many the important role magic can play in both daily life and in combat, and has kept peace in Dwarven territory for nearly 50 years as a General.

Manpower

The Orange Phoenixes are not a very large squad, as it is not easy to find many Dwarves with a high potential for magic. Still, it has about a thousand soldiers total, with many of them being trainees with just a basic grasp of magic. The more experienced soldiers among them, however, make up tenfold for the lack of soldiers they have.

Weaponry

There is no general weaponry for Orange Phoenixes, as they mostly use magic. Many will still get a weapon from the Golden Automatons, though it is not a requirement. Others will have wands or staves to help them focus their magic, or carry tomes to help with such a thing.

Upkeep

The Orange Phoenixes are not very expensive to keep up, as they have few members and mostly live off of their own magic. A single Earth mage with Control of Plants (COP) can make enough fruit to feed half of their members most of the time, so having a rotation of even just ten COP users is plenty.
The most expensive thing to keep up for the Orange Phoenixes is their base at Ironforge University, but that is mostly covered by tuition for the school.

Ironforge

The capital city of the Dwarves, Ironforge is home to not just the Orange Phoenixes, but at least two other Dwarven Squads. These being the Golden Automatons and the Silver Angels. Some say the Black Boars Squad also resides in Ironforge, but no one knows for sure.
Ironforge University is home to plenty of study materials, perfect for the Orange Phoenixes, the studious, magical squad.

HQ

The Orange Phoenixes have two bases of operation, both within the city of Ironforge. The first is Ironforge University, at the northern edge of the city, and the second is the Dwarven volcano at the southern edge, known as Mount Oblivion.

Ironforge University

Ironforge University is a more luxurious base for them, and is often the site of many classes taught by Orange Phoenix soldiers, mostly for aspiring Orange Phoenixes. The Magic Studies class is often taught by the Orange Phoenix General. No accounts describe exact specifics of the interior, as it is off limits to anyone but soldiers and students, though it is said to be incredibly lavish.

Mount Oblivion

Mount Oblivion is a volcano on the southern edge of Ironforge. All Orange Phoenixes are taught a basic form of Mana Skin that allows them to jump into the volcano and enter from its top, ignoring the lava. However, there is another secret entrance underground that leads to Castle Ironforge, the home of the King.
In Mount Oblivion, the soldiers are normally kept, where they can live, study, and train without fear of harming any civilians with uncontrollable or untested magic.

Recruitment

There are not always many people who want to join the Orange Phoenixes. At the ceremony where hopeful soldiers go in front of all Generals, the Orange Phoenixes test whether they can use magic at all.
The applicant is asked what affinity they are, and then are asked to perform the most basic of spells. This is the basic criteria to join. After being recruited, they are trained for weeks on how to use Mana Skin at its most basic levels, until they can block a punch from the General with it. Not a strong punch, just a simple swing. Enough that they can jump into Mount Oblivion.

Duty

The Orange Phoenixes have a few duties. The first of which is the study and spread of magic among the general populace. They are meant to find uses for magic, as most Dwarves think it is rather pointless to study it. Orange Phoenixes still teach it at Ironforge University, and also search for uses that all Dwarves can find for magic.
One of their other duties is to keep the other squads on their toes. They will often surprise the other squads with a visit and even a surprise combat exercise. They need to make sure all squads are ready for whatever could come in the future.
The final duty of the Orange Phoenixes is to improve the Black Boars squad. The Black Boars are a squad of genetically engineered soldiers made stronger with the magic of the Orange Phoenixes. They are super soldiers, often hidden away for they have little to no purpose in everyday society.
