2020-07-02 -- The games begin Report

General Summary

During session 0, the players had a short interaction. Otho, a young Halfling rogue, attempts to pick the pockets of Rein and Hornnugg. Otho was not careful enough and was caught. Rein attempted to detain Otho, but he managed to wriggle out of Rein 's grasp and escapes down an alley.
The first game session begins in the North Gate Inn, just outside the City walls of the City of Unity. Four of our adventurers are dining and relaxing after the 3 day wedding celebration of King Elric and Queen Cymoril.

Presented to the 4 players:
The festivities of the last 3 days have begun to wind down. The wedding of King Elric to Queen Cymoril was a national event with feasts, military demonstrations, and plenty of cheer; something the realm needed.   The realm has been growing tense with rumors of unrest in the state of Northoak, Monsters in the woods and hills of Algermon, Cultists in Orianthi, a dragon sighting in Glasheer, and disappearance of major wares ships in Dune. This was a chance to forget all of that, even if only for a few days.   King Elric, the Souleater, has been on the throne for only a few short years, but his rule has been weak, very much in contrast to the reign of his father Kourin. The major guilds are showing more strength in the field of politics; some saying that the guilds are the real power across Ombre.   Our intrepid adventurers have returned to the inn for a final meal and night's rest before returning to the road, seeking the next adventure.   The North Gate Inn is bustling with noise as everyone revels in the afterglow of the last 3 days, laughing, playing the latest favorite gambling game, and eating and drinking heartily.   The inn staff, the extended family of the inn keeper, are on their toes, keeping tankards filled, plates heavy with venison, beef, mutton, and the freshest catch of the day; and the occasional aggressively happy patron.   The inn door opens and a slight figure in commoner's clothes walks in, the only item that stands out is the cloak clasp sigil of the Adventurer's Guild. He scans the room, sights the group and approaches.   "Your presence has been requested at the Adventurer's Guild, tomorrow, by high sun (noon). Please report to the houseman when you arrive and he will direct you to the proper office."   And, with that, the messenger turns and leaves; ignoring any questions that you might have.
Before the messenger arrives, Otho enters the Inn and sits at the bar, watching over the group.   After the messenger leaves, Otho also leaves. The other adventurers finish their dinners and a few more drinks before retiring to their rooms.   The next morning:
The day has begun. The inn, being one of the largest in the realm, has a communal bathing room available, and the smell of the morning meal is wafting through the halls. The inn is busy with activity as other travelers ready to return to the road, heading home or off to the next adventure. You're up early enough to clean up, pack up, and fill up. Though the characters have had an exhaustive time at the festivals, they are well rested; the inn beds were comfortable, the rooms cozy, and their bellies full.     As you prepare to leave the inn, you check your supplies. They are low but you have enough to easily make it to the next major village... as long as nothing gets in your way. The only item you are lacking is coin. The last few days have taken a toll on your purse. You have enough to restock, here in Unity, or further up the road, but not much beyond.     With the day ahead, do you set out to the open road, do you head in to the city to restock your gear, do you head to the Adventurer's Guild meeting, or do you do something else entirely? What do you do? The entirety of Ombre is available to you.
The party, Rein ,Hornnugg Lastguard, Johnathan Tamai, and Alethra Kulen(Ale, to her friends), traveled to the Adventurer's Guild together. Otho Whitfoot, after being tasked with joining the group by his Thief's Guild mentor, Hesk , arrives just behind the group. The 5 characters enter the Adventurer's guild and are greeted by the houseman, Tobin. After recalling the summons from the messenger, the party are led in to a larger office to await the guild recruiter, Theodoric.   Theodoric offers the party a mission; the retrieval of a legendary red stone, referred to as "The Soul Stone". The stone is about the size of a Human fist and wrapped in a silver cage. The adventurers are intrigued but inquires after the reward for returning this stone instead of keeping it for themselves. Theodoric offers a 200gp bounty, and any other treasure the party can find in the temple as a payment for the stone to be recovered and returned to the Adventurer's Guild.   The party accepts the mission, and leaves the Adventurer's Guild.   The group finds themselves on the road north to Northoak.   With the wedding over, the characters find themselves sharing the road with travelers returning to their homes and regular lives. Also moving north, squads of the King's Army pass the characters.   Emigrating south, refugees pass the group. Rein chats up a couple of the travelers to discover that they are from a Northoak village that has been raided and razed.   During a break in the day, and with the road empty of other travelers, the team is confronted by a black bear as it comes crashing out of the brush from the side of the road. Hornnugg runs in to confront the bear as the rangers and the fighter ready bows. Exchanging blows with the bear, Hornnugg made short work of the creature, while the others' arrows failed to find bear flesh.   Not wanting to waste the kill, the team hefts the bear in to Jonathan's wagon, and hits the road again.   The day ends with the group pulling off to the side of the road, beside a small creek, to lay out a night's camp. Through the night, the members of the team take shifts for a couple of hours of watch duty. During the middle of the night, the team is woken by the sounds of another bear growling just on the edge of the camp. Being a bit hyper-sensitive regarding animal attacks, the team readies weapons once again... to find the growling was Hornnugg, who had fallen asleep on his watch and was now snoring.   The rest of the night was uneventful, and in the morning, the team breakfasted, cleaned up, and packed for another day on the road.   This is where the session ended
