Human

The dominant race of Ombre

Physical Traits

Body tint, coloring and marking

Humans range from a very pale flesh to a very dark flesh, depending on the historical access to sun for the sub species. Depending on melanin production, the skin of humans may darken when exposed to prolonged direct sunlight. This is an effect called "tanning". The higher the melanin production, the longer the comfortable exposure to prolonged direct sunlight. Those with ethnicities in the south, Dune, are on the darker side of the scale, ranging from a high melanin (black/dark brown) to a lighter high degree of melanin (light brown/olive). The high melanin production limits the effect of tanning, as the skin is already dark. These humans may still tan, it just will not be as noticeable. Those with ethnicities in the north, Northern Northoak or Glasheer, that are exposed to shorter days, and less direct sunlight will present lighter skin tones, lacking melanin. People who have less melanin will have problems tanning, and tend to burn when in prolonged direct sunlight. Ethnicities from the middle regions of the continent will range from one extreme to the other in skin tone, and will also darken (tan) when spending time in the direct sunlight.   Hair color can range from a near white to a black. This is usually tied to the melanin production of the human, lighter skinned peoples will tend to have lighter colored hair; darker skinned, darker hair. This is not a guarantee, though, again citing recessive genetics. The most common hair color is a dark brown. The least common is white/blonde.   Eye color varies from a pale blue to a black, covering green and brown. This is also tied to melanin production. Darker eye colors reduce discomfort in bright light, reducing glare. Lighter colored eyes are more affected by bright light and glare.   Humans typically don't have any natural markings, though "birth marks" can present in rare instances. Birth marks are usually an area of the skin that has a higher or lower amount of melanin than the surrounding skin. Humans can also be affected by albinism, a complete lack of melanin, and melanism, an over abundance of melanin. Humans can also present vitiligo, patches of skin that are without the cells that produce melanin. This presents as patchy light colored skin regardless of ethnicity. Humans of mixed heritage may present skin tone from the dominant ethnicity parentage, though due to recessive genetics, this is not always true. Lighter skinned parents can produce darker skinned children, and vice versa.   Due to lack of understanding, people presenting albinism, melanism, or vitiligo, may be worshiped as divinity, or reviled as demons by the masses.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

Omnivorous, though diet varies by location, religion, society norms, and personal choice.

Farming

Humans farm grains, vegetables, fruits, and herbs; Although most crops can be found continent wide, depending on climate, Ombre states may specialize in certain crops.

Specializations

Dunians: wheats, dates, and citrus fruits.
Algerans: specialize in a variety of grains, tubers,

Animal Husbandry

Humans raise horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, ox, and goats in general.  Dunians also raise dromedaries.  Glasheeres raise alpacas for wool and pack animals, and llamas, also for pack animals

Additional Information

Social Structure

Humans are social and tend to group in communities of various sizes, from a family/tribe of a few to a large city of 100,000+ people. In a family unit, the father tends to be the dominant figure, though, he may defer to the mother in some cases. Elders are also included and are referred to for council, due to their age and accumulated wisdom. Children as a group are subjects of their parents, but there is a hierarchy among the children based on age.   Tribes may be lead by a single person, or a council, depending on the social norm of the tribe.   Settlements of humans range in governance from a single mayor, a council, or up to a monarch.  Leaders may be chosen by a popular vote, by placement by a council, or even by divine right.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Humans cover the entirety of the Ombre continent.  They have adapted to extreme climates, and flourish in the moderate climes.
