2020-07-23 Temple assault Pt.1 Take 2

General Summary

The session begins in the morning of the 4 day.   The team has cleared camp and is returning to Meadowspell to have Hornnugg's leg restored or replaced with a prosthetic.   Breaking camp, the team returns to the cart, hitches Jonathan's horse, and treks back to Meadowspell.   Along the trip to town, the group realized they probably couldn't afford restoration magics to return or reattach the leg, so upon arrival, first sought a blacksmith to fashion a prosthetic of metal. When even this proved to be out of the budget of the team, they next consulted a wood smith. Initially, a sculptured leg was preferred, but again due to low coinage, the team settled on a peg-leg style of prosthetic. The work would require 3 days, so the team returned to the field where they initial set up camp when they first passed through town. Setting up camp along the creek, but closer to the northern wood line, the team was again confronted by the old farmer that owned the field, giving them the same warning: "Don't molest my cows or my daughters."   On the first night, Rein slept with the severed leg wrapped in her arms, but Otho decided to get in on the high jinks and managed to sneak the leg away from Rein utilizing a bit of the bear meat as a replacement. As Otho was trying to tie the leg back in place at the end of Hornnugg's stump, Hornnugg awoke with a surprised shout, waking the entire camp. Rein retrieved the leg, and now tied it to her waist with a sturdy rope.   The next morning, Rein, with the leg still tied to her waist, went back to town. Asking around for an alchemist, she was pointed to the house of Matron Maddy, the town herbalist. Maddy's main focus was healing potions but the price was too high for Rein, so Rein next went to the inn to try to "acquire" a supply of salt to pickle the leg.   At the inn, Rein sneaked in to the kitchen's pantry, but was found out and confronted by the cook, identifying himself only as "Cookie". Rein tried to justify her actions, explaining that "Aiden" said that it would be alright to take the salt. As it turned out, though a random name to Rein, the Inn's owner's name was coincidentally "Aiden", who the cook knew very well so didn't believe that Aiden would give permission to the this half-Elf to be in his kitchen without warning the cook. The burly and surly man threatened Rein, throwing her out of his kitchen. After an exchange of a couple of insults, and a swing or two of Cookie's cleaver - which was intended more for menace than actual damage, so missed horribly - Rein ran out of the kitchen, a pan thrown by Cookie bouncing off the door frame and narrowly missing Rein.   Failing her mission, Rein returned to the camp and immediately returned the leg to Hornnugg, since she was unable to find a way to reattach the leg, or to preserve it through pickling.   The 3 days passed without further incidents, the team hanging around the camp, taking the down time to care for their equipment, and to smoke the remaining bear meat, creating jerky.   Returning to the wood smith, the new peg-leg was fitted to Hornnugg's stump. Testing the new prosthetic, Hornnugg was mobile again with only a limp and a slight reduction in his walking speed.   It was time to return to the dungeon for a second assault, and the team made Hornnugg walk as often as possible, using the new leg, as therapy; thus improving his gait and balance. The dwarf did slow the return to the dungeon a bit, but by the time they arrived, he should be able to fight without too much difficulty.   Arriving near the temple, the team again parked the cart, unhitched the horse, and rode in a little closer, hitching the horses and closing the distance on foot.   Coming up the old path to the temple, Jonathan hugged the treeline. Otho, Hornnugg, and Ale maneuvered through the brush to the right of the path, and Rein worked her way up the left.   At the temple entrance, two goblins were again posted as guards, but they were engaged in a discussion or argument, allowing the party members to creep in to bow range. Jonathan's arrow found the heart of the first right goblin, dropping him where he stood. Rein's arrow dropped the second goblin just moments later.   Exercising more caution this time around, the adventurers entered the temple's first room to find that the internal guards in the second room were replaced. This time, Otho sneaked in to the second hallway to scout the way ahead, but the goblins were more prepared; they had rigged a tripwire noise trap that Otho failed to notice, setting it off and alerting the goblins ahead. Otho made a hasty retreat back to the other group members, relaying what he was able to see, and the goblins began to close in. On his retreat, Otho dropped 3 bags of caltrops at the mouth of the hallway behind him, slowing the goblins that would make it out of the hallway gauntlet.   Again, using the second hallway as a choke point, the archers managed to take out most of the goblin attackers as the passed down the hallway, but a couple did make in to melee range, only to be eventually slaughtered by the team. Hornnugg actually survived this encounter with minor wounds.   When the fight was over, Otho retrieved as many of his caltrops as he could and moved them in front of the (now, not so) concealed door to the rest of the temple. The rest of the team again looted the bodies of the goblins. The team then stopped for a short rest before moving further in to the temple.   This is where the session ended
