2020-08-06 Temple assault Pt.3 Report

General Summary

The session picks up where the last session ended.   Though the orientation of the dungeon is not established, I am using the North/South/East/West designators to indicate up/down/left/right on the map as if the map was oriented with the cardinal directions.   The team commences in healing the wounded, and looting the bodies of the various goblins, hobgoblins, and the bugbear.   After a long rest, the team continues to move forward in the dungeon. Rein and Otho relate the details of the west hall, Johnathan details the east hall; but the team decided to explore the southern central hall, where the majority of the assailants emerged from.   Sneaking down the hall and in to the next room, the heroes find the room empty of enemies. A quick scan of the room finds two doors to the north, and an exit to the south. The room is decorated with crates, trash, some bedding, and worthless dishes. Ale searched the crates and found a few copper coins.   Rein makes her way over to the northwestern door, and, foregoing any stealth, kicks the aged door in. Stepping in to the room, she does a quick scan to find the floor littered with larger pelts (bear, wolf, etc), trash, and rotting carcasses of small game (some had at one time been cooked). Not quickly seeing an enemy or anything of worth, she dismissed the room. Otho repeats these maneuvers on the second door and room, again, finding nothing of value after a quick scan of the room.   The party continued on to the hallway to the south, finding a large room with 3 storage cubicles and 6 pillars. Bedding was laid out along the southwest corner, between the pillars. The storage cubicles were littered with more crates, some broken up for firewood. The farthest cubicle had a few cages containing rabbits.   As the party split up to search the room, Otho rummaged through the nearest storage cubicle finding a heavy object wrapped in rabbit's fur. Without a thought, he stashed the item in to his backpack and moved on. Rein searched the far cubicle, and also found a fur bundle. She too stashed it without examination.   Growing bored with the search and finding nothing further, Rein set fire to the crates in the cubicle she was searching. Deciding this wasn't such a good idea, she extinguished the flames by urinating on them. She next set the rabbits free.   While the group took a short rest, Rein explored the hallway leaving the room to the east.  The hallway beyond ran North to South and was blocked by stacks of crates on the south path.  Going north, Rein finds another room, and, again, kicks the door down.  Rein scanned the room, finding a weapons cache; the weapons appearing to be worthless (among the weapons were 4 +1 weapons).  She leaves the room to return to the group.   Finding little else of value, the team began to move on.  Before leaving the room, Hornnugg slays one of the rabbits, apparently for sport.   The party heads to the west hallway, which runs North to South.  The South hallway was also blocked by crates, so the party moved north, finding a room on the right hand side of the hall.  The room has been used for storage at one time and what seems long ago.  Filled with crates in various degrees of decay and demolition, the room is also a home to many rats (non-combative).  The party doesn't find anything of much value, but does find another of the rabbit fur wrapped items.   Returning to the hall and the blocking crates, discussion of how to remove the crates is ended as Otho launches several fire bolts at the stack, igniting the crates.  The party  decides to let the crates burn and move to the stack in the eastern hall.   The characters began to remove the blockage of the crates in the eastern hall, restacking them along the wall, allowing passage.   Following the hall to the south, the team finds themselves in a room decorated with shields mounted on the wall, with a sword or two crossed over the face.  The team again did a cursory visual inspection of the weapons, but, due to the quality of the first couple, again ignore the items.  The room also has a windlass on the east wall, and a portcullis to the left of the hallway that the party has entered from.   Otho peered through the portcullis, discovering a room with 5 sarcophagi down the center of the room and armored skeletons lining the walls.  He uses Mage Hand to "prod" the closest skeleton which collapses to the floor.  Seeming to not disturb anything else in the room, Otho loses interest.   The team, leaving the room, takes the west hallway.  After a couple of twists and turns, they turn down a hall to the south, to find another "T" in the hallway; another door on each end of the new hallway.   Beyond these doors, the team finds what appears to be a jail or humanoid storage room.  Chains and shackles are bolted to the wall, and, in one of the rooms, cages containing human skeletons.   Returning to the main east to west hall, the team returned east to spend a little more time examining the weapons on the wall in the room with the windlass.  Finding 3 silvered swords, 2 longswords and a shortsword, they returned to the west.   The hallway connects the western and eastern north to south hallways, and to the north is the remains of the crates that Otho set afire.  The team moved southward.   The team passes a room on the left; Rein and Otho investigate as the team passes.  Kicking down the door again (this is becoming a common motif), Rein finds a room once used for a barracks, with lots of decaying or destroyed bedding, dead rats in various states of decay, and a chest in the corner.  Suspecting the chest is a mimic, Rein manages to launch 3 arrows in to the chest before it does react; her guess being correct.  By the time the mimic attacks, Rein sinks a fourth arrow in it killing it as it tries to cross the room.  Within the remains of the mimic, Rein finds a ring.   The north/south hall turns to the east, and the team follows.  Leading the way, Johnathan finds himself in a long east/west hallway lined with alcoves containing armored skeletons.  Jonathan, suspecting undead skeletons began to molest the closest couple.  Hornnugg used Devine Sense, but he was too far back around the corner to have any effect along the longer hallway.   The session ended here.

Rewards Granted

3 potions and 2 scrolls to be added to the coinage and experience points gathered from the last session. 2 silvered longswords and 1 silvered shortsword were collected near the end of the session. Minor coinage was collected from the junk strewn through the dungeon.   3 items wrapped in rabbit fur were collected but stowed in backpacks without any examination.
