Grand Artanat Empire
Intergalactic Faction that is hellbent on conquest and enslaves anyone they conquer.
The Grand Artanat Empire - though it does not possess technology as advanced as that of the Hyperion Federation, HEX Mainframe or Cypher Dominion - remains highly powerful due to a large numbers advantage. They occupy a large number of galaxies, and have a very large military. They are also not as heavily ethically bound as the HF military, and may sometimes genetically engineer soldiers for battle. Their population is surprisingly diverse, with several HF member species being seen in the GAE population.
They keep their civilians in line with an iron fist, though those with civilian rights are not necessarily slaves, they still have few rights and live in small houses while the rich (e.g. emperor, megacorporation CEOs) can often live in immense mansions decorated with gold.
Their key technologies lie in their ability to terraform worlds, grow soldiers in vats and keeping people in line (e.g. tracking implants, spying on the population). This allows them to exploit difficult planets that other factions would have to set up entire habitats to exploit. This technology has been used to create small, orbiting micro-stars which can warm up a cold planet to habitable temperatures. They can also use Graviton Wave Refraction to inhabit worlds of unoptimal size; such as dwarf planets or planets which would be too large.
The Artanat Empire has also had a number of rebellions. They have caused a lot of damage to the empire itself, which also has to hold off CD, HM, HF and more attacks, but the rebels are held off with weapons fire. The government also has another significant advantage here - they know the locations of every person at any time.
The Empire has never invented Replicators, so they have never become a post-scarcity society. This is because the CEOs intentionally do not allow their scientists to do so - which hurts their technological advancement, but is important to keeping their current government stable. Rarely, some rich individuals may have some, but these are guarded heavily as to prevent it from self-replicating and spreading through the population.
The GAE also has a hyperquasar megastructure around their home galaxy hyperquasar. It is relatively similar to Paragon in that it can hold a large population securely, but also serves as a superweapon (less powerful than the Cypher Hyperquasar Annihilator). This superweapon has access to enough energy to destroy a system and then all systems nearby in a 30 ly radius (unless they have Stellar Shield). This has attracted attention from other factions, who watch it in case they try build another Hyperquasar Annihilator.
