Phoenix

Phoenix are another of the rarest types of fae, the original masters of transformation magic. They are a race known for always rising from the ashes, either literally or metaphorical, adaptive and mutable in a way many of the long lived fae are not. Despite human myth they are not bound only to fire, though that is the most common impression of them. There have been Phoenix's of all the elements, and they tend to appear when change is needed most. Other names for them include:
Firebird, Hindu garuda (गरुड) and bherunda (भेरुण्ड), the Russian firebird (жар-птица), the Persian simorgh (سیمرغ), the Georgian paskunji (ფასკუნჯი), the Arabian anqa (عنقاء), the Turkish Konrul, also called Zümrüdü Anka ("emerald anqa"), the Tibetan Me byi karmo, the Chinese Fenghuang (鳳凰) and Zhuque (朱雀).
Beings of great change mean of all fae they are typically the ones most likely to change Courts over their lives as they rebuild themselves. Most will cycle through all the Courts over their lives, though some remain tightly sworn to their Court dependent at times upon family ties or promises given. Autumn tends to celebrate them the most, being the Court of Change, though every Realm values them. Phoenixes tied to Fire favor Summer, while ones tied to Water Winter, so their elemental tie might also lead to their alignment.

Inherent Abilities

• Shapeshift - (Racial) - All phoenix fae have the ability to transform from their avian form to human innately.

(It costs them nothing to do so, though the ability level (ease, quickness, midshaped forms, etc) are left up to the individual players.)

• Rebirth - (Racial) - Unless killed by being pierced by the Void directly (indirect blows don't count), Phoenix do not die, but are reborn anew from the ashes of their prior bodies.

(This ability does not cost an ability slot, though different characters may either remember every life they've had, or be wiped clean after each rebirth.)

• Transformation - (Racial) - All Phoenix share an innate gift for transformation magic, which grants a fourth ability slot on their profiles. What exactly they transform though is highly individual, some are the source of alchemy, others channel the ruins of destruction into the rebirth of something new, or transform the state of themselves to pass through obstcles.

(This power must be listed out in the profile, noted as Phoenix Bloodline. What precisely they transform, and the skill with which they do so is up to the individual.)

Community Style

As rare fae it is incredibly hard for Phoenix to conceive children, particularly with each other. Due to this most Phoenix blooded currently present in the Realms are mixed fae, and those who are pure blooded rarely keep to insular communities, preferring to be focused on their Court as a whole, or whatever particular faction or project they have given their passion to. They often do not have large connected family groups, but are known for forming found families regularly.
