Demifae

Demifae are those tied most closely with life magic and nurturing, a primarily Springborn race who live throughout the Realm but are primarily located in the province of the Isle of the Blessed, where the Meadows of Blessing form it's heart amid mountain peaks. The island itself is home to the Court of Flowers, ruled over by a demifae Queen elected from among the best and brightest of the demifae. These delicate faerie are often the beings that first come to mind when humans utter the word 'fairy', including types such as:
Pixies, gnomes, devas, nisse, and more.
The traits that define Demifae are their small size and close attachment to life of some sort. Their magics tend to be nurturing in some form, wound around particular plants, locations or concepts. They are a joyful, playful bunch over all, though some can take the mischief too far and are the result of some darker tales. While the majority of Demifae prefer Spring due to it's innate similarities to their own gifts they can swear to other courts. 
Demifae are the most delicate of all fae races, being the smallest and often times the most fragile. As they mature their power and connection grows larger, beyond a solitary flower, tree or bit of land or a set concept, but when young if the flower a demifae is born attached to, or the mushroom a gnome is bound to, is destroyed it can damage and even kill the fae.

Inherent Abilities

• Size Shift - (Racial) - Due to their small size demifae typically learn a magic to adjust their size to that of a human; this is an innate power among them though some will take longer to learn it than others.

(Variation of this ability depends on the individual, so ease or confidence in the shift depends from fae to fae.)

• Flight or Earth Travel - (Racial) - The demifae born to plants, the pixies, tend to have insect wings of some sort, though some have those of birds; those born with wings can pull them into their bodies when needed and can fly without it taking an ability slot. Those like nisse who tend to have a specific domain can travel anywhere within it, while gnomes and the like often use mushroom rings to travel within the earth's root systems.

(It costs them nothing to do so, though the ability level (ease, quickness, midshaped forms, etc) are left up to the individual players.)

Community Style

Due to their small size is is incredibly rare for a demifae to not remain within their community unless they have a position that requires or a partner that can provide safeness. Sometimes the demifae will need to return to their innate size and that can pose a risk in certain environments where they might be viewed as prey by wild predators. It is not unheard of for them to be stepped on by giants, eaten by gryphons or other such dire fates; a larger group prompts safety and lets them protect each other. 
Within the communities there is typically a council of leadership, most often women, with the council lead the highest among them. Within the bounds of the Isle of the Blessed the Queen of Flowers is the ruler, subject only to the High Queen of Spring. This is part of why most demifae communities remain in Spring.
