Retex

Everything was silent at first, then a howl split through the air. There was scrambling on rocks around us. Another howl peirced through the silence. Deamons were on the hunt, drawn by sent of our blood. Dark, twisted trees slowed our running. They blew in a slight breeze. Or were they moving on their own? The Deamons were faster than us. Our only chance was to hold our breaths and hide, hoping they couldn't sense our fear.   -Adventures with their encounter with Deamons on Retex
Retex is a huge ancient world in The Darkness, covered in deamons and dark souls. The deamons there are very aggressive. They hate any visitors, and sometimes even eat each other. The plants there are twisted and evil. Sometimes they even move on their own, grabbing people's ankles, and devouring them. Some rivers run across the world but the dark and sour water in them is poisonous, and slowly rots you from the inside out. Althapods (large red maggots) live in Retex in large numbers, eating the strange plants that abide there.

Geography

Retex is made out of two large islands. The landscape of Retex is largely a rocky wasteland. Twisted forests of carnivorous trees lurk about the landscape, as well as luminescent mushroom forests similar to those on Araborea. A few extraordinary landmarks dot the landscape, helping explorers and mappers find their way around the world.

The Claws of Retex

As we walked across the blasted wasteland we saw the strangest sight. Five massive clawed arms protruded from the ground, towering hundreds of feet into the pitch-black sky.
— Quantanian Expeditionary
On the void-facing island lies the grave of a might nature spirit that shaped the history of Retex. When the deamon lord that invaded the world slew her, she reached he arms

Fauna & Flora

The only creatures there are deamons and the plants there apear dead. The twisted and wilted plants there are not really dead; they are far more alive than any plants in The Void. They reach out to those who pass by, to devour it. Because they don't have vision, they sense the life in creatures instead.

History

Two great forces shaped the past of Retex. The first was a mighty spirit of nature who wanted the world to remain wild, while the other was a god-like Lucid dedicated to making human civilization expand. The two ideas battled endlessly, neither was willing to make any
compromises or allow peace until the other was annihilated. And so they fought, their war raging across Retex's two islands, the frontlines everchanging and undesirable. This world-shaking conflict went on for over a century and showed no sign of stopping. The two forces weakened each other more and more until each had only a few miles of territory and a sad battalion of followers.

Seeing the weakness of the world the deamon lord Retex seized a great opportunity. In one fell swoop, Retex destroyed both titans and transformed the world into the broken hellscape it is today.
