Kaswink

History:
Within the expedition team she is the Anatomist.   Kaswink first met the party in a Voldtaren prison as she was arrested with a majority of them for various reasons.   Kaswink demonstrated her knack for harvesting body parts from dead animals while the party was traveling through the Voldaren forest to the nearby expedition camp as she helped gather pieces of the spiders they defeated.
In the abandoned goblin village in Garlem, Kaswink and Agave traveled together again as they searched the village for clues. They found some strange mechanical animals and a shrine to an inventor of some sort. Kaswink pulled the sword from the frozen pile of dirt in this town which triggered an event causing the ground to shake and skeletons to rise from their slumber. She used her impressive strength to dig out the pile of dirt and smash through the roof of the cavernous roots below.   Inside the root tunnels, Kaswink protected Agave and Namina while they performed their ritual. She held the line for them along with Frode and DAN Wildcloak long enough for the ritual to be a success. Deeper within this area she hoped to attune with the same spirit that they had previously, and while she heard something it was almost entirely forgotten.
Within The Maze, she has helped protect the party to the best of her ability throughout this place, and even fought against herself to do so. Despite being of few words she is quite clever and devised a way to save the party from the boiling blood, helped solve a few puzzles, and has been piecing together theories about what this place truly is.   Kaswink was the one to try on the king's crown and discover a dark secret through a vision she witnessed while it was on. Risking her own health to deliver the contents of this vision she passed out and had to be dragged to a safe area by Frode, DAN and Agave.   Her devotion to protecting her new friends never ceased within the maze, and up to the very last moment she was still looking out for them. She was able to distract the guardian of the maze's exit long enough for DAN to be able to move and get them both to the safety of a horrible blood vortex.
Upon entering the Gates Kaswink stayed at the camp to protect Namina and Frode who was also in a worsening state. Her quick thinking prevented the group from encountering the entity known as Fjarverand their first night there.   Her temper combined with a rather sinister Two of Cups led to her treating the Myotlings rather harshly during their first encounter which cost the group some relationship points with Ilven.
While dealing with The Spirit of Christmas, Kaswink had been transformed into a mechanical cymbal monkey. Her curiosity led the group to learn that some of the plants had also been transformed into sweet treats. She also grew very sick from over-consumption of said sweets leading to her abstaining from future sugary meals that day.
During the Downtime between Nurend 06-12, Kaswink spent much of her time working on the Expedition Base, hunting, learning sign language with Hysteria, and building a Portable Farm.   While hunting she also came across some tracks that she couldn't finish tracking, though some similar tracks were later found on Nurend 14, 308 which turned out to be a Refracted Stalker. She hopes to use its hide to make something to help DAN be a bit more stealthy.
In The Hidden Village of Mothlights, Kaswink made a Tympi doll for the shopkeepers of Pondside Paraphernalia. This brought them to tears and paid for the new bag which is now being used to store and transport copious amounts of alcohol.   In this same village, she also exchanged the marble she found in The Maze for a bell resembling the one Croak used to appear to her. It is still unclear how this works, but she continues to use the bell in certain situations, even to connect with the dead during funerals.
Kaswink has shown a distrust for the Page of Swords as she doesn't know who this page truly reports to. Despite this she still will request information from them, and has, perhaps inadvertently, provided information to them as well.   She took the lead while the Spiritual Travelers were interviewing The Old Woman on Nurend 15, 308. Their similarly laconic and antisocial personalities vibed rather well, although she did break her promise of no small talk.
While in Thera Relovut, Kaswink acquired a Prison Cell Bar which she aims to use to stop future tourists from entering this pristine realm. She also attempted to remove some chains in the same Prison, though this proved to be a bad idea.   In the swamp on the way to The Night City of Dorchar, Kaswink stayed awake as long as possible while pushing the cart, sometimes even with unusual fish pieces helping her do so. She performed an interesting song with a makeshift drum and an unusual vocal accompaniment which seemed to calm Uisge. While fighting the Death Blossoms she did her best to keep its attentions on her and struck the final blow against the plant creature.
In the Eadarling civilizations, Kaswink was one of the few that wanted to trust the fae regardless of what Hysteria says. Saying that she is being careful around them, though trying to be nice so that they can still get information and so that Frode and Namina can see their family.   She helped get the Spiritual Travelers a couple mounts and a cart while in Dorchar.
While traveling back to the Mothlights with Tympi, Kaswink became briefly distracted by a Paper Bird. This bird ended up containing a memory of Anise. She spent some time tweaking the memory and getting it back to life to fly through the Spirit World once more before the journey continued.   She fell to the attacks of Weresnails and was cursed with Salinkanthropy herself.   She fell to The Unblinking Sein at the start of the encounter, apparently witnessing something so horrific that it nearly killed her.
During her downtime she began crafting her Glaive of the Stalker which was eventually perfected a bit more and is now her weapon of choice.
While in Drimures, Kaswink spent a lot of her time at the farm. She watched over the farmland and orchard from the rafters of the barn, watched over the farmhouse from inside and eventually tracked Arjan into the forest. She provided a great deal of insight to the situation, and deeply wanted to Summon the spirit even before the revelations discovered during the research period.   After Torment was defeated, Kaswink helped to bring Frode back to town when he ran away, and she struck the final blow against the wolf that Torment had become in its weakened state.
Outside Thera Relovut, Kaswink offered Frode some courageous food to cook, and as he cooked she eventually was approached by DAN regarding something spooky in the Swamp. She agreed to look into it with the group, but Frode and DAN ended up staying behind while Hysteria was keeping watch over Namina's meditating body.   She was able to catch the creature that brutally injured Agave, but it ended up being what looked like an orinary rabbit... but as it was stabbed into the ground, it quickly proved to be far more sinister. The rabbit melted into goop, and Kaswink now keeps it in a jar...it is supposedly a piece of The Oni.
While interrogating Quince at the Gate Camp, Kaswink was part of the interrogation with Namina. After the explosion she chased after a suspicious old man that reminded her of The King from the maze. This person ended up stopping at some point, turning and staring directly at Kaswink with a look of pure sorrow. He gave her Another Unusual Fragment.   She was the one that suggested Namina hold a tea party at this time as the combined experiences of the group seemed to suggest a certain spirit might be involved.
Kaswink seemed reluctant to visit Simol, preferring to do it without her or to just go do something else. The group ended up going anyways, and Kaswink kinda learned some important information with the help of the Spiritual Travelers. It seems that the Oni will not reveal itself until "she is ready".
While dealing with the Whendigo, Kaswink had many theories, and led the charge away from the old man and into the destroyed forest. She ended up returning to this old man, and was the first to be struck by him as he transformed into the Whendigo.   She provided assistance in battle with a big ol' maggot she pulled out of a jar of insects, and just big damage from her glaive.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Kaswink currently has Salinkanthropy.   Kaswink's original curse, the one given to her by her ancestry and The Oni, has progressed to the point that she now perpetually has a horn protruding from the side of her head.

Body Features

Kaswink is a bugbear with an extra gruesome looking face and a socially awkward disposition. A butcher of few words and great strength. She wears incredibly heavy armor that emits steam at opportune moments and has been seen to take on various levels of an oni-like transformation during particularly tough encounters. She weilds a massive Kanabō as her weapon.

Special abilities

It has been observed that Kaswink has the ability to transform into an Oni-like creature when desparate (low on health) or in certain situations while rendered unconscious. This was revealed to be the result of a curse placed upon her family.   This transformation can prove detrimental to the group if she is particularly low on health as she can sometimes attack her allies.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Kaswink's history is only as communicated as she is willing to communicate in general. However, she has mentioned butchering and working in the family business for a time when she was younger. She has also since mentioned the nature of her curse, that it began when her Grandfather killed an Oni, but that that Oni cursed him. This curse eventually led to his madness and death.   Before meeting the party, Kaswink traveled with Agave for a time as they needed each other's expertise (defense and guiding) through the Desert landscape.   In the room with the Dragon's Candle she lost a secret...she can't even remember what it was.   It has been revealed that Kaswink has a nightly ritual that must be performed before she can sleep.
Her Candlelight Thought which she gave to the Winter Hart involved Kaswink seeing herself and the party eating dinner at frodes house with his wife bringing in a large roast and potatoes. His kids were running around the living space, and Kaswink looked a bit overwhelmed by the noise but was happy to be safe amongst people.
Kaswink has revealed to the group that she suffers from an Oni's Curse due to some events that transpired in her family's past. She fears that this curse will consume her as well if she does not deal with it, and that is why she chose to come on this expedition.   Information about this curse and where to find information has been provided to Kaswink. The Citizens of Greed suggested she visit the hags in Simol's Village, particularly the leader there. The Old Woman in the Cottage suggested that Kaswink visit Simol as well, and she also suggested "looking inward" and "following the leash".
While riding with Tympi through the forest back to the nearest Mothlight Tree, Kaswink had many questions. Amongst them she somehow got to the question of her curse as the old woman told her to "follow the leash".   Tympi asked to inspect some of her blood and provided much of the same annswer that the hags, especially Simol, would be of great help. Though she also said that she might be able to provide some guidance after she recovers.
Her fear while fighting The Unblinking Sein was of a confusion between herself and the curse. Her mind shifting between the two and being confused about which one is which, and the inevitable death at the hands of her friends, or worse, her friends' deaths at the hands of her. However, she immediately collapsed, unconscious and practically braindead, after experiencing this fear and the truth of what she experienced has never really been touched on.
During the Wheredigo dream, Kaswink played the part of a Tree.
At the Tea Party with the Chittering Spirit, Kaswink requested information about the person that has control over her heart. The Chittering Spirit provided this information to her, and, while it was originally cursed info, it has since been revealed to everyone while Kaswink writhed in pain.   Apparently Simol, The Hag Empress, is a piece of the Oni. She allegedly lied right to your faces about what she knows and her methods, she took the hand that she already injured as payment for information about what ended up being about herself. When she said she would "help Kaswink" when she was ready to face the Oni...she was really just confessing that she would be there.   It was a hell of a revelation, especially right after spending so much time and effort getting info out of her.
While dealing with the Whendigo more of Kaswink's curse was touched on...it seems that Croak shares the same curse, the Kaswink seemed skeptical.

Morality & Philosophy

She has an interesting respect for animal carcasses and will always take as much as she can use before burrying or leaving behind what remains.   Kaswink has repeatedly demonstrated that she seems more interested in protecting others from harm than damaging the opponent or even protecting herself. This desire to put other's first also translates to social situations where, despite her social tendancies, she has shown a great deal of compassion for other members of the party while they were struggling with their own trials.   Within the maze, Kaswink revealed that she too worships Ilmater, and this may be why she feels the need to take other's burdens as her own. Quite a different perspective on Ilmater than her friend, Frode.
Kaswink lost her Red Cord while attempting to reach into The Well of Darkness. She has sworn to not have her damaged skin healed until the cord is found and returned to her.
