Voldtaren

The capital city of a country by the same name, Voldtaren is also the starting point of the Spiritual Tourism campaign and the hometown of Frode. It is located on the prime material plane of Taranel, not in the Spirit World.   Voldtaren is currently dealing with a rather nasty plague which has claimed many lives over the years with no cure in sight.

Demographics

Voldtaren largely consists of humans, halflings, gnomes and half-elves though there are some other races that also live there. Humans make up the vast majority of the population followed by the other three mentioned with the occasional other race as well.   Goblinoids such as goblins, bugbears, hobgoblins and the like are all but unheard of though most are accepting so long as they have coin. Ever since the peace treaties were signed between Remlit and the Fengor Goblins more and more have been arriving though they are not usually citizens. Goblins are particularly welcome, however, as peace was brought to Voldaren and Moraq by a certain entrepreneurial goblin and his tiefling and elven friends long ago.   Elves are of course more than welcome along with Tieflings due in part to the aforementioned peace, but the Voldtaryns also consider seeing a tiefling or an elf to be good luck.

Government

Voldtaren is a monarchy and the current king is Perrev Lendok, son of Hafor.   King Perrev, for whatever reason, is particularly interested in the Spirit World and insisted Frode take a collection of similarly interested prisoners to the expedition camp to sign up.

Districts

The highest of district is where Castle Voldtar resides and oversees the rest of the districts. Each district is laid out onto levels that cascade from the Castle District down to the plains below where the farms reside.

History

Earliest common knowledge of Voldtaren starts with the war with Moraq and the Ancient Sand Dragon Ulktorov. (around 300 Before Calm Era)   This was raged on for hundreds of years between the two great nations. Raids from Moraq frequently consisted of humans, dragonborn, half-dragons, kobolds and the occasional elf and half-elf. Orc reinforcements from Aldagdsan would occasionally attack with their navy.   These Naval attacks were typically easily countered with Naval reinforcements for Voldtaren coming from Harandil while Voldtaren and Moraq had their own navies which were frequently tied up against each other.   Over the years Voldtaren eventually started getting pushed back closer and closer towards the main city. Times were tough as food began getting rationed due to farms being taken over by Moraq soldiers. When things seemed at their lowest a trio of heroes appeared led by a goblin named Selch. This goblin had pale off-green skin and eyes that reportedly shined like a prism.   This goblin brought with him a green tiefling (named Wax) with a satchel and a human woman (named Kharel) dressed in the local style and wielding a very intricate staff. Not only did he have the help of these two individuals he also brought with him contracts and airships. Aboard these airships was an entire army of reinforcements: Warforged. With a deal made Selch left promising that he would return with Ulktorov’s head.   With the warforged deployed, Voldtaren took back their plateaus, their farms and their villages were liberated, and they felt the tide turning. The war was able to continue like this and Selch returned, years later, with the head of a dragon. Brown scales, eyes staring forward in terror… The head of Moraq’s armies was cut off both literally and metaphorically. The trio was hailed as heroes, celebrations were had that are still continued as tradition to the modern day. The war ended on that day and everyone rejoiced. Selch helped erect a wall between the two nations and declared the area around it a neutral zone. This marked the beginning of the Calm Era.   A statue has been erected in Voldtaren depicting Selch, Wax, and Kharel triumphantly standing over the head of Ulktorov.   Over the years since Voldtaren rebuilt and has since returned to its once glorious self. The Lendok line has been ruling for generations and the current leader is Perrev Lendok.

Geography

Voldtaren itself is incredibly difficult to raid as it is situated at the top of a series of cliffs that rise up above the plains.
