The Night City of Dorchar

Dorchar is an Eadarling city located in Tympi's Forest. It was first mentioned by The Citizens of Greed on Nurend 06, 308 when they visited the Expedition Base.   The Spiritual Travelers recently acquired A Traveler's Guide to Dorchar, and on Nurend 17, 308 they first saw the city come into existence as the sun set.   The city, much like its citizens and any items made there, disappears as the sun rises.

Demographics

The Night City is entirely populated by Dorchar Eadarlings, anyone else is just visiting.   The Dorchar, both in and out of the city, are usually dressed in dark suits with incredibly bright, neon piping. Some Dorchar are dressed in purely bright clothing to offset their darker skintones, and some adorn themselves with pinpoints of light to better appeal to their archfae, Dorcha.   Glowsticks and jewelry made from Electrimoss that glow incredibly bright are popular accessories.

Government

There is no clear "leader" in Dorchar society, however, they are most likely ruled by Dorcha as she is the Archfey or mysterious being that created them.   Sgith is also a potential candidate for leadership, or at the very least a well-respected Eadarling in the community.   Since their entire civilization and culture is based around nighttime activities, Sgith is the most likely and clear "leader", but all Dorchar owe their existence to Dorcha and wouldn't dare go against her wishes should she have any.

Industry & Trade

Dorchar society is based around nighttime activities like dinner, nightclubs, all night diners, raves, popup restaurants, and so forth. Because of this, they have many restaurants and so forth to appeal to any tourist and Dorchar alike. While they have no real need for actual commerce, they do enjoy certain things they would otherwise be incapable of obtaining without such commerce.   They apparently trade with the Citizens of Greed, and as such they have access to several foreign objects and ingredients that have been incorporated into their society. Since new shipments are expected often to supply their nightly and hedonistic lifestyles, it is possible to find Citizens of Greed in town with any visit.   Because they trade with these Citizens of Greed so often they also accept gold as it can be traded later for things that matter. They also accept sentimental and special items like any other fey/spirt.

Assets

One of the more well known businesses in this town is a tattoo parlor which is apparently a purveyor of magical tattoos. This includes one capable of connecting to special stones which allow the user to see their family and hometown. Namina learned of the existence of this tattoo parlor on Nurend 06, 308 when she purchased the information from The Citizens of Greed.   Sgith’s - A fancy eatery and the best restaurant in town. Sgith also makes Sgith’s Pinot Noir on the premises and will sometimes be out front greeting customers. Soft lighting, ambient classical music provided by a live string quartet, and an upscale dresscode make Sgith's an ideal location for anyone looking for a romantic evening or even just a highend meal with some friends. Expertly aranged lighting coupled with the decor, dresscode and potential magic make each table feel incredibly private as the surrounding area is darkness with just points of light for each surrounding table almost as though one were sitting in a sea of stars.
  • While in this restaraunt, the Spiritual Travelers only interracted with the bartender, Ealach, a frog-person with burnt red-orange skin highlighted with brighter burnt oranges and black spots. Similar to a Northern Red-legged frog. Wears black pants, a white shirt, and a blue-grey apron folded in half and wrapped around his waist.
DINER - A less-than-creatively named Diner though one of the more popular locations for travelers. A Neon sign hangs in the window with OPEN in large red lettering and Late written in cursive blue letters. Large windows frame the establishment and people walking outside can see the well-lit interior and any customers that might currently be enjoying a meal or drink. A variety of music can be heard playing from a jukebox, though most of the time this music defaults to smooth jazz unless otherwise directed. Most of the lights are consistent and provide gentle illumination for dreary travelers, but one of the lights is constantly flickering as if in need of a replacement.   Arlech's Casinno - A casino with a hotel upstairs, elevators are available. Characters can gamble and meet the owner, Big Arlech. Drinks similar in nature to Sgiths and the Lilypad are available, and a buffet is available for anyone that gets hungry while engaging in the games. Rewards for winning it big include some coins, though they mostly exchange items of magical, sentimental or practical value.
  • The higher floors are reserved for massive Suites, one of which the Spiritual Travelers rented by bartering different items and stories.
  • The front desk clerk was a rather socially awkward Illinois Chorus Frog person named Ghe. He was dressed in a white button up shirt, black pants, and a bright red vest. He was constantly squinting or keeping his eyes closed while speaking with the spiritual travelers and appeared to be trying to hide something as they approached. He also fainted at the first sign of blood as Hysteria removed their gloves to show their cut fingers. Ghe was originally described as a "generic green frog person" though this was incorrect.
Sealach’s Melts - A small though popular popup that can be found on the streets of Dorchar with only two employees handling the sometimes incredibly busy nights. They sell Melts with different insects, mice, cheeses, sauces, breads and so on. They also have a variety of sides to go with these dishes and alcoholic beverages like any other eatery in Dorchar. The pop-up has a small neon sign with flashing colorful lettering advertising the name of the establishment.   CHILI - An aptly named eatery and a simple popup that has taken over a small booth...the origins of which nobody really knows. They just know that it wasn’t always full of Chili. They sell one delicious type of chili and have one worker that is unsure of who the owner is, they just serve the chili.
  • This CHILI popup was encountered and the Spiritual Travelers met the worker named Brot. He seemed proud of his work and eagerly gave them their first cup of chili on the house, though further bowls were later traded in exchange for different cuts of meat thanks to Kaswink.
The Lilypad - A night club bustling with patrons, some of which will have names and valuable information perhaps. They serve a variety of drinks at the bar which is tended to by the owner, Ceol. They stock most alcohols except the ones that are particularly elusive, and they have Sgith’s Pinot Noir, of course. Soft and slow or even hard and fast beats can be heard playing over the loud speakers, and a DJ is always ready and willing to accept requests within reason.   The Warehouse- The original purpose and owner of this warehouse has long since been forgotten, or maybe no one ever knew to begin with...or maybe it came into existence with the very purpose of being an abandoned warehouse. Nightly raves, dances, and other forms of gathering and merrymaking are held here with music provided by DJs or live performances depending on the event. Lighting is mostly non-existent save the luminescent piping of certain outfits, glowsticks, and the individual table lamps for private booths or the bar.   TATTOOS - A small tattoo parlor ran by Snàthad. Snàthad is capable of creating magical tattoos and rocks which allow anyone to see place and people that they care about. He can also provide normal, non-magical tattoos if requested. The shop is located next to a "Local Game Store" and beauty salon as described in the Traveler's Guide to Dorchar. Snàthad is a Yellow Banded Poison Dart Frog person wearing a simple black outfit, apron and some glowsticks poking out of their apron pocket.   Star Curtain Gaming - A Local Game Store complete with comic books, graphic novels, card games, board games, dice, figurines, hobby supplies, miniature airplanes and lots of other hobby/game related paraphernalia. The store owner, Gaem, is a Kokoe Poison Dart Frog person dressed in the usual Dorchar fashion with a dark purple skirt, ruffled black top and neon lavender trim on the sleeves and ruffles of her top, hem of her skirt, and fingernails.
  • The shop was described as having an unpleasant scent similar to soy sauce and body oder with little to no air circulation.
  • The only clientelle in on the day the Spiritual Travelers visited were a couple of "game experts", one of which complained about 95% of the decisions made by the travelers. While their attire differed in that one wore a trench coat and the other a simple hoodie, they both had patches with a black rose that had dark blue highlights and neon green thorns.

Guilds and Factions

There are many guilds and factions within the City of Stars. Some of these are based around industry while others are more gang-like. Guilds are less like the expensive and often classist guilds seen in Taranel (and the real world) and more like clubs of entrepreneurs that help each other in their endeavors. An up-and-coming restauranteur might join the Restaurant Guild for help in finding a location, staff and training to get everything moving.   Restaurant Guild - A guild dedicated to helping any eager Eadarling looking to start their own restaurant or to help maintain current restaurants in the city. One of their many responsibilities involves the import of foreign foods and ingredients to constantly improve upon their culinary aspirations. Developing new recipes, perfecting wine pairings and determining appropriate trades for these things are also important tasks. Guild members for this particular group are expected to keep the industry evolving.   Nightclub Guild - A guild dedicated to the more risque of nighttime activities including nightclubs, casinos, burlesque houses, brothels and the higher-end rave locations. Glowstick distribution is handled by this guild, and they are also responsible for maintaining the myriad of pinpoint lights throughout the town that give it the appearance of stars, especially from a distance.   Popup Guild - Similar to the Restaurant guild though with different leadership and reserved for those operating a popup restaurant or other business. Designed to help any enthusiastic Dorchar start their business without having to rely on a more permanent structure to do so. It oversees and includes owners of all popup restaurants, shops, and miscellaneous services such as shoe shining, tattoos, haircuts and the like.   The Lich's Rose - An underground and mostly hidden group of occult enthusiasts. They don't have a uniform save a tattoo of a rose pedal for each of the 10 members. This tattoo is often in a different orientation for each member so as to not rouse suspicion from the tattoo artist, and their group symbol is that of a black rose with midnight blue highlights and venomous green thorns. What exactly they do as a group is unknown, and how they ended up getting together is also shrouded in mystery.
Show spoiler
Though, honestly, they're probably just meeting up for tabletop games once a week...who knows?
The Servers 'Guild' - A group of wait staff and other front-of-house workers that have banded together to vent about the daily struggles of being a server. They also accept certain back-of-house workers like dishwashers. While they are not an officially recognized guild within the Dorchar they still utilize the term in their group's name, and they are more of a gang reminiscent of a 50s biker club. They enjoy rolled up sleeves, leather jackets, and frequent raves at the Warehouse. Feuds between members of the Servers Guild and other guilds are common, especially the Restaurant Guild.

Architecture

The architecture and general design of the city is reminiscent of American 1920s with very square building designs, tall buildings, and the occasional interesting design breaking up the pattern. However, these ... rather out of place buildings are mostly reclaimed by nature with vines and moss growing over them and they are mostly built into trees or incredibly large mushrooms which have grown out of those same trees.   Streets are lined with streetlights which are glowing gently in the night, the occasional pop-up business can be seen cleverly positioned beneath a light, and the sidewalks and streets have many excited dorchar going from building to building in their nightly rituals.

Natural Resources

Glowers - A type of mushroom with a short, narrow stock (about 1-2 inches long) and a large, bulbous cap whose width is equal to the length of the stock. These mushrooms are referred to as "glowers" due to their ability to emit light. This light comes from the powder that coats their caps as well as their mycellium. These mushrooms only emit this light after being disturbed and are a great tool for travelers caught without torches.   The Dorchar Eadarling are able to harvest these mushrooms with great care and encapsulate the powder and mycellium in vessels that can later be shaken or broken for a drastic effect. They are the source of glowsticks, glowtubes, and some people even pour the fluid on their clothing for raves.   Electrimoss - Growing on rocks, logs, the ground and wherever else you might expect to find moss is this unusual species of plant. The Dorchar Eadarling will tell you it is a gift from Dorcha herself, however, it is just as likely that Dorcha chose the location solely because of the existence of this moss. It looks similar to any other moss, however, the color ranges from an almost vile neon yellow all the way to neon green with a smooth gradient between the two running from tip to base.   This moss has the unique property of generating electricity, hence the name. The electrical currents can either be used by attaching divices directly to it, or by channeling it through the ground and walls using Conduction Reeds. Most of the electrimoss in the area is not harvested and is instead left to naturally grow wherever it happens to be, however, it is sometimes very carefully transplanted, but the effort to do so usually outweighs any benefit.   Conduction Reeds - Found hanging over the great chasm to the east or west of the village, depending on what side of the forest you're on. These reeds look similar to any other reed that might be found in a lake or river, but they're much longer and act as the perfect method of delivery the energy generated by electrimoss from one place to another.
