Namina

History:
Namina first met the party when the rest of them were arrested by Frode in Voldaren, while she was not imprisoned she did seem to harbor some jealousy for not getting to be behind bars for some reason.   Within the expedition party she is an Occultist.
Within the cavernous roots the party explored to find something ancient, Namina was able to, along with Agave, communicate with the tree spirit that the roots belonged to. She keenly lead the ritual to speak with the spirit and learned that its aura is blocked by some outside force, and that it is losing its ability to stay connected with the material plane and its roots. During this encounter, Namina did succomb to whatever force was blocking this tree, however, she doesn't seem to have any recollection of what it was...
Inside the maze, Namina showed her sea form to the party for the first time as she swam through the depths of a watery portion of the trial. Not much was revealed about what she found down there besides that she met a child, and that a bunch of undead attempted to attack her before she fled back to the party. Her hand was wounded during another trial in this same maze when she reached into a pit of darkness and met another merfolk hand on the otherside.   Thanks to Namina's incessant meddling she was able to be with Hysteria when they first entered the Heart of the Maze. Her presence here may very well have saved Hysteria's life.
Upon entering The Gates for the first time, she was unconscious while the rest of the Spiritual Travelers were able to witness the gorgeous new land.   She later took initiative in the discussion between the group, Croak and the Myotlings leading to the Spiritual Travelers now having some negative relationship points with Ilven, but also having a valuable asset with Croak on their side.
While dealing with The Spirit of Christmas, Namina was transformed into a rag doll. During this time she helped the Spiritual Travelers by providing communion with certain spirits and eating a lot of chocolate.
When it was revealed that Hysteria had a spirit of Paranoia latched onto him, Namina began asking questions and providing some support. She utilized some Empathatic Salts to connect to Hysteria emotionally, and this led to the spirit overwhelming Namina and being amplified through the area. She was able to fight it within her own mind long enough to escape and drag the spirit out into the open where the rest of the Spiritual Travelers were able to join in the fight a bit better.
During her Downtime between Nurend 06-12, Namina spent much of her time making some Paranoia Leather Armor for Hysteria while preparing defenses for the Expedition Base. She also developed a new incense from the resin of Sundrenched Sweetgum which helped elevate the mood of anyone nearby through unusual tactile hallucinations.   The Talisman she made during this downtime would later go on to help the Spiritual Travelers retrieve an Unusual Fragment from The Well of Darkness.
While in The Hidden Village of Mothlights, Namina connected with the mothling children by painting their faces and auras. An elderly mothling woman noticed her damaged hand and provided an ointment with instructions to repeat the application each day. Namina was sure to pay attention to the recipe so that she could provide it to Hysteria later.   In this village she also observed some of Tympi's past while in Her House. She saw that Tympi's home was always open with guests coming and going, social gatherings, and several beings of unknown species would appear now and then.
While the Spiritual Travelers were following the Leshy, Namina was able to observe a second spirit near its wolf form while using her ability to see the undead. While the emaciated frame of the old man could've just been more trickery from the Leshy, its message about unburied bones was too tempting to resist.
While traveling through Pluarsh ec Relovut, Namina utilized her healing magic and connection to Spirits to keep the Spiritual Travelers from certain death. Her knowledge of the occult allowed her to know of how to appease Uisge while it was being subdued by performances from her friends. She helped saved Hysteria from certain death along with DAN, and her decisive curative abilities helped the travelers defeat the Death Blossoms.   She had to be restrained after the Death Blossom fight as the pit of darkness continued to taunt her and her beliefs. She also communicated with a Zombie that survived the fight and learned of some ancient knowledge that might help her in her quest to repair the Cycle.
While visiting the Eadarling civilizations, Namina wanted to trust the frog-folk, but was persuaded away from this by Hysteria before returning to a more trusting position. She learned of some of their culture and even interracted with Aotrom.   She helped Frode acquire his new Hairshirt of Suffering while they were visiting Star Curtain Gaming, and her ability to make Talisman helped the group acquire mounts and a cart before departing the town.   She was also the one to finally free Tympi from her prison.
While traveling back to the Mothlights with Tympi, Namina confronted Hysteria about who they are and what they're up to...also about the person they serve, referring to The King.   She kept the crew alive the best she could while fighting Weresnails and The Unblinking Sein.
While in Drimures, Namina had a bit of a headstart on a lot of the town's wackiness and helped the Spiritual Travelers adapt. She used her abilities to examine the civilians and discovered they all had the same aura which was a dark, murky red. She was on the side of weakening the creature to make dealing with it easier, but was eventually convinced to summon it, especially after Frode's fierce determination and her own fortune telling.   While fighting Torment she played an important roll in keeping the Spirit more corporeal while also reducing its health through communication. After it was defeated, she helped keep Frode calm regarding Arjan and the whole event, making sure he didn't get lost in the woods and so forth.
While outside Thera Relovut, Namina used her magic to see within the prison to make sure it was safe. She also helped calm the Myotlings with incense, tea and all that before removing their curses.
When interrogating Quince, Namina played the roll of "good cop" though she was kinda bad at it and ended up being a bad good cop, but a good bad cop, until the Gate exploded. She helped DAN investigate, and used her magic to determine that the pillar seems to eat magic. She also discovered that the pit that was opening up at the bottom of this gate was pouring forth a rather maddening aura that looked like sound.   She organized and used her Tea Party knowledge to get a nearby spirit to show up. She was successful and correct in her and Kaswink's assumption that a certain Chittering Spirit would show up. Because of this, the Spiritual Travelers were able to learn a great deal about what the heck is goin on.
Before the party left for Simol, Namina was suddenly promoted to leader of the group by a rather unanimous vote!   She provided an Aura painting of Simol as payment for information about Kaswink and the Oni, it was painted with Kaswink's blood. She was going to give up a finger as additional payment, but was stopped by both Kaswink and Agave.

Physical Description

Body Features

Namina is a merfolk with light blue hair and heterochromatic eyes: one blue and one orange. She wears a white choker and a navy blue dress with a white bodice. As a merfolk she has some evidence of her descent from the sea including fins on her head, scales, slightly webbed fingers, and presumably claws. As a merfolk it has been seen that she is capable of switching between her land-form and her sea-form. This usually involves a rather drastic transformation and her legs becoming one long fin.

Special abilities

It was revealed in the maze that Namina has a "sea form" which she utilized to swim through the murky depths of her own trial.   She allegedly has the ability to see auras and has drawn the auras of several party members.   She seems to have an innate ability to connect with and communicate with spirits which is proving incredibly useful to the expedition so far.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Not much is known about Namina besides her heritage, she tends to keep her history to herself. Although, from what has been gathered, she does seem to be a cleric of some kind suggesting a priestly upbringing of some sort. Despite this it is unknown what deity she worships or is devoted to for her power. She hails from beneath the sea, specifically the city of Kyofunoka.   It was revealed within the maze that she was helping care for Frode's family at some point.
Her Candlelight Thought that she gave the Winter Hart was a secret to the party; but "the viewer saw a merfolk who looks like Namina, but with a smaller frame but still with that wild hair, smiling gently with a hand on her shoulder. The candle smelled of sea water and hibiscus."
Namina learned of a way to view her loved ones from The Citizens of Greed. The method involves finding a city they referred to as The Night City of Dorchar, finding a specific tattoo parlor, getting a tattoo and a stone, connecting the two somehow and thinking of those she holds dear.   This method was mentioned again in a book that Frode received in the Mothlights, A Traveler's Guide to Dorchar.
Namina discovered a huge lead in her quest to repair The Cycle from The Sinkhole after the Spiritual Travelers defeated some Death Blossoms.   “Who dares bring this vile light into my realm? Disrupting my joyous freedom from the reel, if you would worship the Circle why do you trespass here? Begone, lest ye would prefer the endless existence of a shattered cycle, lest ye would join me in triumph in the ever-coming hour of victory against that wretched ring, lest ye would find solace in learning what your past lives knew, remembering what memories were washed away by the River Misery.   Join me here then in my hour of revelation.”   In addition to this strange speech from some...apparently sentient darkness, she also received the story from the Zombie which mentioned an ancient Necromancer named Božena, some ancient people called the L’huine, and The Rotting Gate.   Zombie's Story
“Please, save me. Not just me, but all that are like me. The pain of life is too much to bear. The pain of existence, the weight of eons, there is one that must be stopped before my brethren and I can rest or, hopefully, be reborn someday. I wouldn’t expect you to go right away, I’m sure you’re busy and wouldn’t want to impose, but I just wanted you to hear my story.   “Long ago, during the reign of Ki’ur, The FIrst King-and-Queen, then known simply as King Uilan, we were given explicit instructions by The Psychic to build an impressive city. She said she had heard the cry of a distant god desperate for company, and as the construction continued and talk of the new realm we would visit spread… well, other ideals began to rise as well. The Necromancer, Božena, began preaching the woes of each passing cycle. She would proclaim to all who walked in the streets that they are missing memories, that each life is more pointless than the last, that we should remember all of our lives or what’s the point in living them?   “She had many persuasive thoughts and promises, and one of the most tantalizing to the majority of us was the promise of immortality. That death would never again claim us, that we would carry with us the weight of all L’huine knowledge for all time … it was too much to resist. I had curiosity and a crippling fear of what might lay beyond this life, if I were reincarnated without my memory well then, what’s the point of even living in the first place?   “We finished the city and when we passed through to this Spirit World for the first time we all traveled here, to this swamp, and with the help of Božena we opened a gate to the land of rot using special mushrooms of her own creation, and as we chatted amongst each other a gate formed which we walked through to find our destiny.   “Božena’s promises were supposed to be realized in this new Rotting Gate, and I still do not doubt her desire to break the Circle, but her desire for power was something that couldn’t be ignored. She channeled the energies of that gate to corrupt us, to spread horrific blights and plagues, and the immortality that was promised did not prevent our bodies from rotting as time passed. Our existence is pain, each moment is suffering, and she is still in that gate channeling the magics for millennia ever on the edge of greatness.”

While in Dorchar, Namina was able to view her family and home with the help of the tattoo artist.
During the fight with The Unblinking Sein, Namina felt the air becoming toxic with fears that she would die breathing this treacherous air.
During her downtime between Nurend 19 and Nurend 30, Namina swam a great distance through underground, water-filled tunnels. She eventually found a massive cave with what looked to be a temple and iconography of her deity. She prayed, an her prayers were answered:   A God's Wisdom
Consumed by guilt, He must not be freed
Lost, dwelling on sins that He cannot forgive
Half cries out again for Her love is lost
This time curled up in Anguish, in Despair, Fatigued
By the Hope that is drowned, Her tears, like ink and oil
Will stain the rays of sunlight.   As She hides, frightened and reckless, while the world around her ends
No more cycles, no ticking from the clock
No more death, or life, or rot
An end to a bitter tale, no longer tainted by Hope
An end to a ceaseless spiral, and to His darkness
Ever-chased by Her light.   Uncover His secrets, hidden before Time could see
Fight, or free, those that are devoted to His will,
Remind them of the Hope they once had, of dreams forgotten
It is more than Rot that corrupts, for knowledge is truly rotten
The Usurper will wear His crown, but bear not His guilt
And the missing pieces will be bathed in light   To repair the broken Cycle is to know your past Anguish
To protect the Cycle already broken is to lose your Self
Freedom from the Reel, a Death unending with balance tarnished
Find Hope to forgive, to redeem, and end the denied suffering
It is shared by all that know Him, and will be destroyed
Less they are saved from the Lying dark   A Wanderer with no Knowledge, but methods to defeat It
Find him, your path revealed but unwalked
As he writes and ponders and forgets his day
Tricked from him, stolen, by the one that demands to be forgot
The light he gives her taken from his own is lost
Will no longer be lost, freed from Twisted dark   Spirits washed, their pieces cast like paper on the wind
Bats that remember them, faces like an old friend
Or the heart that is trapped beneath the surface even now
Will all be lost this time around
As even now she works against it all, misguided and tortured
For her will is not her own, but rather the Coiling dark.

While in the Wheredigo dream, Namina played the part of a rabbit, there to either eat, protect, or be neutral in the life of this caterpillar. She chose to help it.
Namina received more insight about her quest to repair the cycle during the Tea Party with the Chittering Spirit.   "You're already on a path that would get you closer, and your friends will bring you to the next step which will involve dealing with some "confidential information". When you pass the hurdle that is retrieving the One that is Lost, and when you defeat the One that is Caged, and vanquish The Usurper...then you will find yourselves at the Edge of The World ready to jump into your doom. Only then will the cycle be repaired."
Namina has become obsessed with Romance Novels, particularly ones in the The Trellis to My Heart series. She has acquired more books in the series at long last by visiting the Sylvan Library.

Morality & Philosophy

Namina has an apparent respect for the sanctity of death. This was observed in the Goblin village when she carefully wrapped the goblin skeleton the party found in cloth to take with her. It is unclear what she has done with these bones since then.
