Session 29: An Unexpected Illness, Leaving Dorchar, The First Six Hours

General Summary

An Unexpected Illness
Tympi had just reached for her lantern with hopes of getting you all safely to the Mothlights and away from Blüdswurth to help Frode. This lantern then emitted a light that filled the room and blinded everyone.   The light faded, vision slowly returned to you, and the first most noticeable thing was that you were still in the same room. Your eyes were slowly drawn downward toward the body of a now collapsed Tympi, her wings were lying limply at her sides, arms above her head in a position of complete exhaustion. She was still breathing, quite clearly even to the least observant of individuals as each breath was heavier and more ragged than the last. Air wheezed from her as she shifted to her side, the lantern she had grabbed now cast somewhere across the room and black tears dripped down from her eyes before she spoke.   “I… I’m blind. I can’t see anything. I thought if I had my lantern I could at least see home and get back there, but now it’s all dark. I need your help, outsiders, please, I’m sure you’re very busy, but can you please help me get to a mothlight tree? If we’re truly in Dorchar then it would be a simple matter of traveling due west of here, wouldn’t even need to go through the swamp. I’d greatly appreciate it, when you have the chance. In the meantime, I’ll be here, resting, and if you need anything from me I’ll be happy to help.”   It was agreed that she needs help. You decided that the next stage of your journey would be trying to get her home so that she can recover, While the permanent gate from the outside world is also a priority, it was considered that Tympi might be a valuable help in doing so.   Mounts, which were mentioned by the shopkeep at Star Curtain Gaming, were considered to help with the journey, especially since Tympi would have a hard time traveling in this state.   Kaswink and Blüdswurth departed briefly to go get some takeout from the Diner as well. They returned to the suite with fresh insects (including Namina's favorite land shrimp!) some fried crickets, and some mealworm ambrosia.
While some of you were planning a way to negotiate some mounts from the stables, Agave, DAN Wildcloak and Frode began feeling a bit feverish. It started out as just a mild discomfort, but it grew in intensity to the point that Agave and DAN found themselves trying to cool off with lots of water.   As Agave bathed he soon began to cool off, but something unexpected occurred as well. His arm began to grow a root, and his shocked screams gained the attention of Namina. She courteously knocked on the bathroom door, and upon entering began administering some levels of first aid along with a bit of that fancy cleric magic stuff. Agave also had enough time to investigate the root and determine that it was identical to the ones from the Death Blossoms you fought.   Hysteria began working on a poultice to treat DAN's illness now that they knew the source. They used some left over vines and stomach acid from the creature along with whatever other herbalism materials and such they had lying around. DAN began coating their bodies in the poultice as Namina turned her attentions towards Frode.   Frode initially claimed they were healthy, doing fine, but Namina's medical assessment revealed his fevor and she managed to persuade him to confess his illness with some reasoning about the Mothlight village and not wanting to spread the disease to them. She instructed Frode to bath and call her in when the roots start to grow which he agreed to do.   As Frode bathed, the cold water quickly relieved his fevor much like it did for Agave and DAN. Submerged in the water, roots began to painfully grow from his ankles and feet. It seems that the illness was a bit more progressed in him, and as these roots painfully grew from him the bathtube began to fill with blood. He was shocked to see this and screamed for Namina to come in and cure this disease.   She did so, the roots began to shrivel up and some floated to the surface of the tub. Frode's feet were still in a lot of pain and full of holes, and Namina began to treat these wounds.
Leaving Dorchar
Meanwhile, Kaswink and Hysteria left for the stables. On the way there they also stopped by Sgith's to give the bartender the wooden leg that Kaswink had worked on for him. While at Sgith's, they saw an unusual exchange between the bartender and the front desk clerk from the Casino. They were exchanging weaponry and discussing overthrowing the Casino owner, Arloch.   Hysteria and Kaswink decided to ignore this and continued their journey to the stables with some fresh brewed Societea and a bottle of Sgith's Pinot Noir. At the stables they met the rough and antisocial Eadarling that ran the place. They ended up trading the Pinot Noir, which truly was his favorite, Thanks Bartender! Along with the offer of a tea party with the aforementioned Societea and the Talisman that Namina was carving back at the suite.   The stablemaster seemed annoyed at the idea of a tea party, though that might've just been his ...quirk, regardless of whether or not he was truly upset, the two of them offered to bring him back to the suite to enjoy some tea. He was okay with this, but had concerns over abandoning his post. Hysteria then offered him the services of a Hag which they produced from their Deck of Illusions.   The frog was skeptical, though eventually accepted the deal: two salamanders and an amphibious cart. Hysteria left another illusion card behind for him to use later if he was terribly upset with the deal, and Kaswink would later use her Resonating Slingshot to launch the talisman to the stables. The payment was completed.
Back at the suite, some of you were resting and some of you were working. In the end the sun would eventually rise and the journey west would begin.   Before this time, however, DAN went to collect their weapons from the craftasman, Caei, and Dorchar was left behind as it faded from existence.
The FIrst Six Hours
The journey was mostly uneventful for the first several hours. Namina slept and you all conversed with this V.I.P. that you found in a jar.   Darkness? Fought the darkness? Residual Darkness?   "We did drive back a time of darkness long ago, but I feel as though whatever attacked me might have been something different? The darkness that surrounded us seemed to just be an utter lack of light, but we could still move and weren't constantly being attacked. Darkness isn't something to be afraid of or something evil, it's just where the light doesn't reach. The light creates the shadows, and they each give us reason to appreciate the other."   "There are places of darkness within the forest that I cannot see. Places that the mothlights don't reach. Those are likely places of malevolence, more powerful darkness, something more than just an imbalance."   Wells? One of them talked to us?   "There are places of darkness within the forest that I cannot see. Places that the mothlights don't reach. Those are likely places of malevolence, more powerful darkness, something more than just an imbalance. If a voice or the events you described occurred around such a place it is possible that something is leaking through, something powerful, and that could throw us into another time of imbalance or worse. I've never seen these wells you speak of, but I would appreciate the opportunity to see the item you took from one of them."   Croak?   "Croak is good people. We would hang out a lot, he was always really nice, and he provided a useful part of the team. I never would've picked him as my successor, and I'm surprised that they chose him. I wouldn't picked my sister, Ilven, though her attitude towards outsiders and the whole kidnapping me thing was kinda rough."   She was visibly chuckling during this and was quite surprised that Croak was chosen.   "Honestly, the fact he maintained my philosophy is appreciated. I'm glad he was chosen for that reason, but I still feel as though it might've been Ilven's time, even if she was anti-outisder for a bit."   Blood Curse?   Tympi asked Kaswink for a bit of her blood so she could get a better idea of what she's talking about. She confirmed basically what Ilven's puppet said, commenting on and being a bit surprised by Ilven's wisdom. She also stated that the hags would be very helpful, especially Simol.   Hags?   Hysteria had soem concerns over trusting hags, but Tympi insisted that they're fine people...at least Simol is. She explained that Simol is the empress of the hags, and while she is a hag herself she seems more trustworty. Apparently they used to hang out a lot and drink while discussing different dark prophecies that Simol had visions of. She's "really good at that metaphorical, philosophical stuff" according to Tympi.   That being said, she suggested not taking anything from Simol's followers unless you wanted some mind-altering substances.   She also noticed Hysteria's concern, and the concerns of the group, and offered to provide what services she could in "following the leash" with Kaswink.
During the travels an unusual static noise was coming from DAN, it whirred between a dull static and a higher pitch like a radio trying to find the right frequency. Finally a voice came through "Hello?" it was familiar, the voice of your benefactor, Quince.   “Hey, been a bit. When last we spoke I mentioned needing an anchor on this side for us to walk through. Looks like you guys did that remarkably quickly! We’ve got our side built as well, and the first few tests are going to be ran shortly. Meet me at the gate that you built in a few days, however fast you can get over there anyways, and you’ll be able to greet the first few tourists to come through. Now, we’ll need some help getting bases set up. We have construction crews to make sure it goes swimmingly, but showing the Camp Directors the ropes on things like the local flora and fauna would be greatly appreciated. I’ll need to collect what notes you’ve finished and give you some new journals to record any future discoveries."   You all decided to ignore this, Quince continued trying to get your attention before finally giving up assuming you were asleep or something.
Conversations continued, questions were still asked that I haven't heard yet, I'll add those later once they're sent.   Though the journey was smooth so far, it was eventually interrupted by the sound of something being plopped into some nearby water and the grumbling of some goblin fae creature.   “Kickin me out, this’ll show em, this’ll show em, i’ll catch a fish and eat it, that’ll show em. So what if I meet a traveler or whatever, so what, I'll just catch a fish.”   Debates were had over whether or not this should be investigated, but Kaswink, Namina and Hysteria eventually sneaked ahead to get a better look. The creature's Aura was Dark Green and bright Cyan suggesting jealousy, being self critical, but also honest and dreamers.   Namina intentionally broke a twig to get the creature's attention and it was revealed to indeed be an unusual looking Goblin. She had big ol’ pointy goblin ears, a skin tone between beige and pastel green with more beige-red at the tips of the ears, nose and cheeks. She had short, pointed horns sticking out of her forehead, and sharp teeth. She was wearing some drab brown outfit with a simple dagger, fishing pole and basket. A cast iron frying pan was strapped to her back.
This goblin seemed frustrated that she couldn't catch any fish. She even went so far as to accuse you all with catching all the fish before she could get there and asked for some. Though you didn't have any fish yet, and you were insistent that you had never been to this area.   Apparently her name was Meets Travelers, and she was kicked out of her village by some Elders that insisted she was bad luck with a fate that would mean the end of Goblin Society.   Throughout the conversation with her she began to realize that Elders have the opportunity to be Evil, and she began to request that you all kill her Elders.   Though, in the end you decided to help her with her fishing problem first. Tympi suggested Sky Fishing and claimed that her village will have a Reverse Gravity Fishing Hook for sale somewhere in Pondside Paraphernalia.
The journey then continued to the west, now with another traveling companion and another quest.
