Paper Birds

Paper Birds are a type of spirit that can be found in The Gates and perhaps other layers of the Spirit World. They were first encountered by the Spiritual Travelers on Nurend 18, 308 while traveling west to get Tympi home safe.   The spirit itself is actually a memory which has bound itself to a sheet of paper which has been folded into an origami bird. When the bird is opened and the memory is read, it is absorbed by whoever is reading it. The paper bird then ceases to be as the memory is now again part of some creature's mind.   This creature was mentioned by The Writer in The Field Guide entry Birds of Paradise, Paper Birds, Dragon Pheonix.
They are created when a willing person writes on a sheet of paper while thinking intently about the words and focussing on the relevant memory. After this, the paper is folded into the shape of a bird, and it is then burned over a candle. As it burns it fills with life and departs as a new spirit, free to travel The Gates, alive for all time even after the person that created it dies.   The Paper Bird that the Spiritual Travelers encountered on Nurend 18, 308 held memories of Anise, the sister of The Writer. These memories, at least the first one anyways, seemed to be payment for some food. This is unusual as The Citizens of Greed and anyone else that might accept such a thing as payment would not normally throw such a thing away. This means that it may have changed hands into a more benevolent individual, or some Citizen of Greed had some reason to create this bird.
Agave encountered another Paper Bird within his "dreams" of the murid whose memories he received from the Chittering Spirit. This paper bird involved a Voldaren noble and a Wooden Hand. It maybe the same noble from the book, The Voldaren Envoy.
