What's New?

A log of the latest changes in the Discontinuum going backwards from the most recent. This will also be the parent page for any meta articles and competition specific pages.
Date Article(s) Change Notes
8th May 2025 Watercups; The Opening of the Watercups A species of aquatic plant, native to the rivers and streams of the Central Punjuki Mountains on Magicians' End and a festival associated with the flowering of the plant.
2nd May 2025 Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 6 Volume 6 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now published (out of a planned 10 volume set), taking the story forward to the events in the momentous year of 3133 APC. I've made a bit of a start on volume 7 and some odds and ends for the remaining volumes but lots of work is needed before the whole story will be complete.
20th Apr 2025 The Bloom and the Fall; Aruvan Jafraan; Samiraj Azamdar; Jahanara Azamdar Three character articles from the early age of the Four Aerial Courts on Magicians' End and a book of poetry which links them.
16th Apr 2025 Xocotlán A tiny little article for the realm known as the Children of the Sun mainly created to house an image I liked that didn't fit into the realm I was supposedly creating it for (Magicians' End) but has a nice home here. The Children of the Sun is a very open ended and little explored corner of the Discontinuum, much like Magicians' End used to be before the extensive developments of the last two years.
3rd Apr 2025 Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 5; Moon Pregnancies Volume 5 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now published. It covers a complex period of ten years in the life of Clarise Vabatan and took me longer to formulate the plot and compose the diary entries than in previous volumes. I think I'm now in a better place to progress the story into the following volumes but clearly the diary has become a huge writing project for me, so we'll have to see how they go. I don't expect to be making major revisions to this volume, but as ever with this tale, I have to reserve the right to go back and change or add things if I feel later parts of the story demand it.   The Moon Pregnancies are an ancient ritual of the Enfolders of Magicians' End and this new article will support future work on volume 6 of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan.
24th Mar 2025 Greystow; Deep Greys; Far Greys; Garald Grey; Johanus Grey Although work continues in the background on the Diary of Clarise Vabatan and I have made reasonable progress, the pace has slowed as I continue to mull over some plot issues. As a result, I'm restructuring the next part and will end up splitting it in a different place. I'm close to making chapter five public but might hold back until I have two parts ready to publish, since there could be some volatility until I get even deeper into the story. In the meantime, realising that the potential reader may now want to know a little more about the Tinturbean town of Greystow, I have revised and enriched that article to create a new timeline for the town, a gallery, two new political parties (and their founders) and a little more body text about its history and places of interest, with illustrations. All this can be found via the main article about Greystow.
31st Jan 2025 Katrapetch WorldEmber 2024 was a good opportunity for me to move ahead with the documentation of the timeline of Magicians' End and I managed to advance into the Age of Shadows and add over 25,000 words to the Discontinuum in total. In 2025 I want to resume work on the Diary of Clarise Vabatan, which has become a significant piece of fiction within the Magicians' End history in its own right.   It was helpful to take a break from telling the story though, because I needed some time to think about the overall direction, plot and pacing and to reflect on how I ought to structure the remaining writing. That's now a little clearer to me and I plan to make some small edits to earlier chapters to allow for later changes. Mainly, I realised that I needed to do some more world building in Katrapetch, the home city of Clarise Vabatan. So my January in World Anvil has been entirely dedicated to expanding what we know about the city. In addition to the main article, I have created several new sub-articles about some important suburbs, explored the legal system as it works beyond the palace, and added a few new historical events to the timeline. Most significantly, there are also now two brand new maps for the city centre and the greater region to aid in visualising the locations. I haven't listed everything here, since it can all be found linked inside the extended Katrapetch article, so have a look there if you're interested.
31st Jan 2025 Change Log : 2023 & 2024 I've archived the original "What's New?" content found here, into a separate change log article linked at the bottom of the page. The idea is simply to reduce the clutter on the main page, allowing readers to focus on what is really new (or at least newer), whilst still being able to browse older change history if desired. This will also help the main page to continue to load quickly, which might not have been the case, had I continued to simply add to it indefinitely. I plan to follow the same practice in future years, creating fresh change logs for old data and probably also on a biannual basis.
