Cassius Darkthorn
Cassius Az'Reald Darkthorn is the husband of Arcadia, 'The Crimson' and was the one who came to realize her potential beyond a mere Sorceress as a potential "Goddess Candidate". He is a genius tier Artificer, but that very genius comes at the cost of him being more than a little obsessive, compulsive, and creepy when it comes to Arcadia, the most prevalent source of his inspiration. Cassius studied, designed, and built the 'Eve' based on the wrecked hulks of various Spelljamming vessels and combined it with his ongoing knowledge of Airship construction necessary for exploring "The Shattered" world of Toril, with its countless masses of floating islands and contintents, ultimately coming up with the SCARAB vehicle as his final design. Despite being the lead engineer and designer of the 'Eve', Cassius serves as the first mate, the second-in-command to the vessel, and the ships Quartermaster.
Cassius is a member of "The Darkthorn Family", a secretive family devoted to the research of the cosmos and everything within it. Each member of this illustrious family is granted an 'absolute gift' over some area of expertise and they all devote their lives to the pursuit of fully understanding that aspect. Cassius was never able to fully understand his gift, but he knows it is associated to either his artificing capabilities, the natural and intelligent responses of his Iron Defender 'ARACNID', or something else entirely that ties the two of them together. His father, Shane Darkthorn, also took great pains to plan for his sons birth, and taught him one very important tool that granted the both of them access to 'High-Level Magic' that directly taps into the weave. Such power comes at a great cost, as the reason this magic had been lost to the annals of time is because it feeds on the experience, knowledge, and very souls of the beings that power that magic. It was through this method that Cassius transferred, and sacrificed, the accumulated power both he and Arcadia had amassed over their extended lifetimes in order to break free of the grasp the Overgod of Realmspace, Ao via the use of a High-Magic Ritual. The conclusion of this ritual marks the beginning of the aventures of Cassius and Arcadia within 'The Crucible of Creation'.
