Shane Darkthorn
Biological parent of Cassius Az'Reald Darkthorn. Known as "the black sheep" of the Darkthorn family due to his inability to manifest magic in any shape or form from birth, and was banished from the family's enclave as a result of it. His sister, a legend in her own right and a 'prized posession' within the Darkthorn family, voluntarily followed her brother to the lost continent of Laerakond, where they made a living for themselves as mercenaries under the employ of Titan of War, Seraphina, who was leading a rebellion against the Draconic overlords enslaving the population there.
While on Laerakond, Shane discovered his Darkthorn gift to manifest itself as the gift of "Absolute Knowledge". As a result, Shane utilized his knowledge to instead research and find methods, tools, and alternatives in order to manifest magic-like effects, without relying on magic directly. When his sister became kidnapped and stolen as a bride for Ao, he vowed vengence and to free her from the Overgods clutches, though his reasonings for doing so are murky at best. This took untold lifetimes and permutations, but was accomplished via his skillful manipulation of the Titan Chronos and liberal usage of The Well of Souls. His research culminated in creation of a custom language used to 'speak' directly to the weave rather than through the constructs developed through Ao and Mystra. However, to employ their effects to the fullest, he enlisted (or created) his son, Cassius, and his companion Arcadia, to fulfill 'The Prophecy' to strike back at Ao.
