World Introduction

Welcome to a world which focuses upon the vast expanse of Wildspace and the Astral Sea. In a very literal sense, 'The Crucible of Creation' is an adventure setting about finding or creating a world for characters that have either emigrated, been exiled, or discovered a wanderlust to venture far, far away from their home world. The freedom to explore realms, places, worlds, cultures, peoples, and technologies across vast distances and even potentially completely seperate time frames allows for a considerable amount of leverage and creative license in where your character(s) will fit. However, the worlds discovered here are inhabited with beings and creatures who may have influenced or affected by the very timeless nature that permeates through the overlapping nature of the Material Plane with the Astral one. Though allies and companions are bound to be present across the worlds and planes with which the Astral expands and touches, so to are beings bent on their own goals, motivations, and instincts and the dangers they present to any who venture into this hostile environment cannot be under-estimated.

Steel your will and motivations and venture forth into the unknown. The riches, treasures, and discoveries to make it all that come true are scattered across the countless worlds and hidden dungeons of Wildspace and the Astral Sea, but so too are the dangers of such places lying in wait for you.

Inspirational Source

The two protagonists for the initial campaign adventure using this world setting, Arcadia 'The Crimson' and Cassius Az'Reald Darkthorn, were beings who had seen the rebirth and reseating of the power's that be on the homeworld from which they came. Cassius, a genius Artificer with absolutely creepy social skills set off on a path to discover 'a Goddess candidate' and to help her ascend to that status. Arcadia, an incredibly gifted Sorceress and childhood friend of Cassius, found comfort in the creepy Artificer, and became the first 'Goddess Candidate' of his.

When their homeworld, Toril, became a Shattered mass of floating islands and landforms, rebuilt anew, our protagonists surmised an underlying chain or limitation that was placed upon them by the very deities and overgods of Realmspace and the domains with which they oversaw. Rather than continuing to live the rest of their lives forever stuck at the whims of implacable Gods, Arcadia and Cassius set out to discover a way to to make their dreams a reality and to reach for freedom on their own terms. That way was found in discovering Spelljammers, and that goal became their obsession.  They have spent years gathering materials and crafting the 'Eve', a SCARAB (Spelljamming Capable, Air Reconnaissance And Boarding) class vehicle similar in some respects to Spelljammers, and yet distinctly unique from the helms of other vessels due in part to the high-magic ritual the pair performed that ejected them out of Realmspace and into The Astral Sea.

The world developed for 'The Crucible of Creation' interpreted the parting conclusion of a previous campaign for 'finding a world' or 'creating a world' as an open ended invitation by the author's and co-author's original Dungeon Master to continue our beloved character's story on our own terms. In response, we both agreed that though the campaign had ended, their story had not, and so we went about creating a world and setting we could use to further explore, expand, and enjoy their story with. If you also enjoy what we have created here, perhaps a seperate campaign, one that focuses on your character and their adventures among the stars, may also be possible.
