Toril

Toril is the third planet from the Sun in Realmspace. It was orbited by one moon named Selûne, and by a cluster of asteroids, known as the Tears of Selûne.

Throughout most of its history, Toril was known less commonly as Abeir-Toril. The name "Abeir-Toril" was archaic, meaning "cradle of life" in an extinct and forgotten language. Since the Spellplague and the revelation of the existence of a planetary sibling known as Abeir, and the fact that both Abeir and Toril were once united, the latter name came to informally mean the formerly united worlds of Abeir and Toril.

Pre-Shattering

The pre-shattering era of Toril is actually sub-divided into a number of era's and events which occurred within the realms history. Many chroniclers have noted a number the more commonly well known events that have occurred within its storied history, such as 'the Time of Troubles'. However, a number of smaller events, chance coincidences, acts of Fate, and paths of Destiny eventually lead to the state that the world of Toril eventually came to understand as 'The Shattering'.

Few chroniclers were able to observe those times and report back on them with any clarity, with the lone exception being grand libraries and research archives of the Darkthorn family, which were meticulous with key details associated to events that impacted particular fields of study they were conducting, but also incredibly vague and dismissive on topics which were not directly related. Most records of these "before times" are archived within their massive libraries of collected information and data, but cautious historians are quick to point out that relying on a single source of information is a recipe for folly. A few records are collected and available among the Dragons and with the Adventurer's Mercenary and Trading Guild of "Adventurer's Anonymous", but these are often reserved for those who have risen through the ranks and become trusted allies of those organizations.

Events

The most clear and concise way to view the chronology of events is to read and explore The Chronicles of Lady Arcadia "The Crimson" and Cassius Az'Reald Darkthorn. However, at a high-level, the following events have been recorded as having major significance into the eventual Shattering of the Forgotten Realms of Toril.
