Season 4, Episode 2: "Heat of the Forge, Part 1" Report
General Summary
As the Dream Team returned to the Aga Jain, thoughts heavy on their mind, Mist and Lockette were pulled aside by old friends.
Lockette was met by Atticus McCallow, who came on personal business to share an intelligence report on Alexander Marcus, hoping to inconvenience the Prime Executive without directly taking action. Although the Iron Drake project was discussed, Atticus dodged answering, claiming that even he had a boss, and was forbidden from sharing too much. However, he did reveal that the Stewards had nothing to do with Rel's disappearance, and that Chamas had actually visited Typhoon in the past -- although he had not known the significance at the time.
Meanwhile, Mist caught up with Golonos and the grieving family of Sensei. The Kasatha reminisced about the past, his eyes heavy with memories, and claimed his retirement from the battlefield. Mist acknowledged him, and then attempted to return his master's sword to his family, but the elders directed him to Castrovel instead, unwilling to take the responsibility inherent in the blade.
Then the group reunited on their starship -- after weeks of flying inside Mataras -- and appreciated the recent upgrades Lockette had made using elbow grease and Dragonglass. They found a ship quadrupled in size, although with less weaponry, which had been transferred to three smaller starships docked inside -- the Tempest, the Epoch, and the Shift. The group was over-the-moon during the new tour, especially with the expanded bedrooms on the new officer's deck.
But all was not well in the Dream Team, as an old schism came to a boil. While Isra shared her plans for the assault on the Forge, Chad's eyes glossed over, and he made his hatred for all the fighting quite clear. While he wasn't going to give up on his goals, he refused to be apart of even more violence, stating that he would be returning to Absalom Station to live with Qwen, and to run Jelly Bois LLC like an actual business. In particular, he was to repair the extensive damage to Downlow, and would begin searching for both Fish's family and the Lotterbees. When Mist pressed him on the issue, the Barathu recoiled, firm in his stance, and left the Aga Jain in a rush.
The system present about Chad accepted his decision, allowing him to leave the party, and via random selection, annoited Cornelius as the new party leader.
A mix of understanding and surprise washed over the crew, but there was little time for rumination. The battle began in less than 12 hours. So the group used Far Portal to returned to Ezorod. Tesin received a missive in Night from the mysterious Fey cat Chess, who invited her and the Dream Team to his private resort on the Idari, just one day before they were to attend the Culinarium.
Then, the group appealed to the varied natures of Chamas and Varos Mining Team 4, slowly convincing them to board the Aga Jain and accompany them to the Forge. Mist attempted to convince Jun Zhao to help him with the BRANCH API Hub when they returned, but the Alignmatist recoiled, feigning ignorance on the subject, and acted as if he'd never seen the plans at all. When asking Abelina about it, the Haze pushed a vision into Mist's mind -- an old vision of Langdon coming for a previous iteration of Lockette -- leading the party to believe that some powerful, supernatural entity enforces the terms of the Stewards' contracts.
Drifting into sleep, the group saw a vision of Isra's life, and the hardships present on the Forge. The horrors of Gregar Taxus' rule, and the hopelessness present in the Children of the Forge. The perfect motivation for a fractured team, as they left Ezorod via the local portal, tuned Far Portal to the Forge, and arrived to a nebula of starship dogfights and a planet-sized Hellknight citadel.
Using their new rides, the Dream Team made short work of the Aspis Consortium, clearly used to the advantage of numbers, now lost as Hellknights swarmed their defenses. After punching a hole down the middle, the crew landed on the Forge, and Isra used one of her Shepherd abilities to heal her people and announce her presence.
A roar of triumph erupted all over the planet. A parade of ghostly Androids lined the path to Corporal Taxus' compound, pointing the way with furious, shaking hands. A sword cut its way through the depths of the planet, arcing high in the light of a far-off sun, and landed in Isra's hand.
The war Isra started so many years past was coming to an end.
