Oort Cloud

"The Oort Cloud was, for the longest time, considered the border of Human Space. Even when we techincally had the ability to pass beyond it, those who did so wished to leave their fellow humans behind and start a new history. Now, it is simply the border of the Sol System, and yet another mystery to be plumbed and categorized and explored."   ~Academician Lee Havohl, University of Titan

The Oort Cloud: Mysterious Frontier

The Oort Cloud, a vast, spherical shell of icy bodies, comets, and dark objects, marks the outermost boundary of the Sol System. Stretching from 2,000 to 100,000 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun, this distant region remains shrouded in mystery. Amidst the Cloud's icy debris, gravity eddies – localized distortions of space-time – swirl and churn. These eddies can unexpectedly quantum lock with similar disturbances in nearby systems, giving rise to stable wormholes.

Gravity Eddies and Wormholes

Two notable examples of these wormholes exist: the Backdoor, linking our solar system to the Wolf System, and the artificially stabilized Waygate connecting to the Centauri System. These cosmic bridges enable faster-than-light travel, revolutionizing interstellar exploration and commerce. However, the unpredictable nature of gravity eddies makes discovering and harnessing them a daunting challenge.

Dark Objects and Hidden Dangers

Lurking within the Oort Cloud's depths are dark objects – enigmatic, difficult-to-detect entities that defy remote observation. Some of these objects are surprisingly massive, their presence hinted at only by subtle gravitational influences on nearby celestial bodies. The origins and compositions of these dark objects remain unknown, sparking scientific curiosity and trepidation. As humanity explores the Oort Cloud, the possibility of encountering hidden dangers or untold riches propels researchers and adventurers alike into the unknown.

Exploration and Discovery

Despite its challenges, the Oort Cloud beckons explorers, scientists, and entrepreneurs. Uncharted regions await discovery, holding secrets of the solar system's formation and the mysteries of gravity eddies. As humanity ventures deeper into the Cloud, the potential for groundbreaking discoveries and unforeseen consequences looms large.
