Avenring
The Duchy of Avenring spans the southeastern reaches of Othvarand, where river-fed lowlands rise into the rugged uplands of the Broken Thanes. It is a land of old hill forts, scattered steads, and watchful vigilance, ruled from the fortified town of Rieumark by Duke Jevran Corvayn.
Avenring serves as a buffer between the authority of Archduke Vaurant and the tenuously bound hill-lords of the Sovereign Banners, many of whom still hold to ancient compacts and refuse any more fealty to the Crown. As such, the duchy is a place of delicate truces and forgotten treaties, where swords are kept sharp but not yet drawn.
Unlike the rich grainlands of Verland or the urban expanse of Crodeux, Avenring is shaped by its terrain - narrow passes, high ridges, and cold rivers. Its people are known for loud pride, old blood, and staunch loyalty to family. While Church tithe is still collected and the Iron Precept technically holds sway, many villages in region retain shrines to the Old Faith. Members of the Grey Cloaks may be found honing their skills hill, as well as steeling against the rumors of encroaching orc warbands.
Pathfinders and scouts from Avenring are among the best in Othvarand, trained to navigate broken ground and steep trails. Though the duchy lacks the wealth of its peers, it holds endurance and resilience as its treasures.
