Sovereign Banners

In the craggy highlands of the Broken Thanes the Sovereign Banners hold sway. Once noble houses and frontier lords cast out or broken by war, they now rule their distant holds as they see fit, independent, feuding, and proud. Some still offer token allegiance to the Crown, but most answer only to strength, tradition, or survival.

These warlords command old hillforts, command wandering companies, and keep their own laws. They feud with each other as often as they raid southward, but in times of great peril, they have been known to unite, briefly, beneath a shared cause or a greater enemy.

To outsiders, they are outlaws or rebels. To themselves, they are one of the last free folk in a world of dying kings.
