Verland
The Duchy of Verland lies in the eastern heart of Othvarand, a land of carefully tended fields, stone bridges, pilgrim roads, and abbeys. It is ruled from the fortress-town of Sablegarde by Duchess Isalde Charnoille, one of the most devout and unyielding nobles in the realm.
Verland is a place where the Church and its people walk hand-in-hand. Inquisitors are not strangers here, they are part of the rhythm of life, as familiar as the toll of temple bells. The duchy’s villages are orderly, its stewards well-trained, and its people, live under a peace forged through clarity and control.
To the west, however, the land begins to fray. The Mirewood Fens, a drowned and tangled region of mist-choked forests and forgotten faiths, presses up against Verland’s borders. There, Church-backed settlers work to reclaim the land inch by inch, often under the watchful eye of Duchess Isalde's agents.
While Verland is not the most martially powerful dutchy, it is rich in grain, discipline, doctrine, and faith. Its knights are drilled, its records exacting, and its lords known to kneel in prayer before unsheathing steel.
