Jevran Corett

Duke Jevran Corett, Lord of the Duchy of Avenring, Warden of the Southern Reach, and Custodian to the Broken Thanes rules the southeastern region of Othvarand, where the fertile lowlands give way to the high, stubborn hills of the Broken Thanes. From his seat in the fortified town of Rieumark, Corvayn holds a line between duty to the Archduke Vaurant and uneasy peace with the fractious hill-lords of the Sovereign Banners.

Rieumark itself is a bastion of old stone and watchful towers, wrapped in thick curtain walls and crowned by an ancient fort believed to be built by an old Ashborn warlord. Corvayn has done little to embellish it. His court is austere, his retainers few, and his patience limited.

The Duke's strength lies not in spectacle, but in restraint. He has kept the roads open, the banners at bay, and the taxes flowing, no small feat in a region where barons still bear ancestral grudges and some oaths are older than the crown. Corvayn permits local customs, turns a blind eye to certain forgotten rites, and chooses compromise over crusade. He is no friend to the Church's purifiers, though he tolerates them when useful.

Once a companion of Archduke Vaurant in the eastern campaigns of their youth, Corvayn has since had his hands tied by the political strife at home. He has a great interest in the history of the Ashborn folk, as his ancestry traces to the Children of the Ashtree, and it is not uncommon to hear of Druid or Bard to frequent his halls.

His loyalty is steady, but not without conditions. In his view, a realm survives not through righteousness, but through remembering what ground is worth dying for.
