Pembrooke
Perhaps the most sprawling city in Tarien , next to Katzpütch, is the town of Pembrooke. With nearly 500 residents, Pembrooke is second only to Gryphon's Crossing in population. The city, however, sprawls across the Clay Steppes for nearly five miles. Despite its “large” size for the Hinterlands, livestock outnumber people in Pembrooke by a ratio of at least five to one. A non-walled town, vast grasslands with herds of horses, cattle, and War Stags separate the low homes of the townsfolk. Twice a year – at Beltane and the Harvest Festival, people from all over Azermathia arrive in Pembrooke for a great horse swap. While many horses do trade hands at these events, the highlight of the swaps are the War Stag auctions. The auction is one of the few times that non-Azermathian’s, including those from Eldoria, Galencia, and Zennon, will visit the Hinterlands.
