Harvest Festival Tradition / Ritual in Tarien | World Anvil

Harvest Festival

After the final rush of harvest time, the Harvest Festival is gives the farmers of Tarien two days of well-earned celebration. Much like Beltane, the festivities typically occur on village greens. Huge tables of fresh vegetables, venison, and wild boar encourage gluttony. Amber harvest ales, brewed a moon ago, flow freely. While food and music are the center of the Harvest Festival, the games of the festival are not to be missed. Men and women compete in dozens of contests of skill from archery to story-telling, with the winners crowned as the local champions. In some villages, these contests are fierce, as men seek to defend titles they have held for years, or in some cases, generations. In additions to contests, prizes are awarded to craftsmen and farmers who display (and often sell) their finest wares of the year. From prize squashes to exquisite silverwork, craftsmen and farmers take advantage of the Harvest spirit – and the festival goers harvest filled purses to survive the coming winter.
