Festival of Flowers
With the coming of spring, the Festival of Flowers is a gala festival of food, music, and wine before the hard work of planting begins. In addition, it is at the Fesitval of Flowers, that parents of young maidens present their daughters to the village as being of a marriageable age. Most girls sow a new dress for the event, and take advantage of their independence to seek a husband at the festival. As reserves of food are often running short after the winter, the feast typically centers on wild game and, in warmer climates, spring berries. With the warmer weather, most villages hold the festival outdoors, in greens or on the lawns of the wealthiest citizens. After a winter of aging, last autumn's wine is often tasted for the first time, and of all the festivals, libations flow the freest at Festival of Flowers. Music and dancing lasts late into the evening, although after midnight, many new couples retreat to more private places to celebrate the spring. Often, the weddings that occur on Midsummer’s Day are result of the Festival of Flowers celebration.
