Scayruns' Communal Birthdays
In the region of Orie Country known as Scayrus, individual birthdays are not celebrated. Instead, the community gathers at the beginning of every month for a communal celebration. Even Scayruns from the mountains travel north to the Luna Asylum to participate.
To begin, every Scayrun whose birthday is coming up enters the Luna Asylum. They are handed clothes said to be similar to those tortured within the building nearly a century ago. They are asked to dye and decorate the clothes as they see fit. Every room on the first floor has various spell components as well as natural dyes. The clothes are hung from the upper floor windows until nightfall. Then, they are cut into thin strips and turned into a skein. These fabrics will be saved and used during the Weaving Ceremony on the next Spider's Day.
Everyone in the building exits to join the outdoor party but before the dancing, singing, and feats of magic commence, the clothes are draped outside various windows on the Luna Asylum by magic. Most Scayruns had ancestors committed to the asylum. As such, the clothes are typically hung beneath the window of a passed relative. As night falls upon the party, a grand illusion of the Crowning Comet passes across the sky. Casters with the ability will also produce tiny orbs of light that dance around the party-goers.
While gifts are not mandatory or expected, a sweetheart or family member may give a handcrafted item, like a bracelet, crown, shirt, belt, or component pouch. Many gifts are small and can be worn, especially considering the Scayruns traveling quite a distance.
Food booths are set up by location. The people with birthdays can make requests for specific dishes. Many Scayruns will choose to sample dishes from across the region. The Comet's Tongue, mockingly named after the condition, is a Scayrun favorite. As such, it has a series of booths near the Luna Asylum at every event. This cupcake has been magicked to dance across the tongue, lightly popping as it goes. After eating a cupcake or two, the tongue is blue. Its popularity has caused many to seek out different flavors and colors; however, the blue is considered a classic.
With a large number of people celebrating birthdays, the event takes place on a square mile centered around the Luna Asylum.
